JOB SUMMARY
The Machine Operatorwill operate machines for soil potting. The role will coordinate with the propagation and planting team on logistical requirements, plant quality, and reporting waste. This position will appeal to someone who is mechanically inclined to troubleshoot equipment problems and ensure equipment is properly sanitized.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate various soil pot equipment in the propagation and planting area for loading, spacing and planting;
- Coordinate and communicate with propagation on logistical requirements;
- Coordinate with propagation on final plant quality check before shipping;
- Troubleshoot equipment problems;
- Communicate labour requirements to Operations Manager, and work with small team when required to meet production requirements;
- Record waste and inventory by grow order;
- Maintain sanitation of propagation containers and surrounding work areas;
- Operate machinery to cut plants when required;
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 1 year greenhouse experience or horticulture diploma/degree;
- Demonstrated machine operation experience preferably in a greenhouse environment.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- Mechanical aptitude for greenhouse automation equipment and ability to troubleshoot issues;
- Strong organization and time management skills with the ability to work independently;
- Able to work in a professional and cooperative manner with co-workers and management;
- Ability to work and collaborate with a team;
- Good communication skills;
- Strong attention to detail skills;
- Flexibility to work overtime as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Ability to stand 8+ hours per day;
- Significant repetitive work tasks;
- Ability to lift to 50 lbs occasionally;
- Ability to push 50-100 lbs frequently;
- Working in a cool/ warm, humid indoor environment with moderate noise level and around moving machinery;
- Available to work after hours and rotating Saturdays as required (overtime hours are paid);
- Must wear steel toe safety shoes/boots.
