About the role
Job Description In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Manager or designate, the Respiratory Therapist administers respiratory therapy, collects diagnostic data and establishes case management for patients and clients. Provides clinical education as it relates to the acute and chronic disease management of Respiratory illnesses such as Pneumonia, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Asthma and Cystic Fibrosis. Formulates and charts Respiratory Care plans according to established procedures to ensure safe and appropriate application of a variety of respiratory equipment and processes. Implements approved quality assurance policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training And Experience Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) certification. Graduation from an approved Respiratory Therapy program. Eligible for registered membership with the British Columbia Society of Respiratory Therapists (BCSRT). Life Support "C" Certificate. Completion of a Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Educators Program or postgraduate coursework in asthma care (CAE - Certified Asthma Educator) from a recognized educational facility and One (1) year recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Skills And Abilities
- Ability to conduct quality assurance tests and related activities
- Demonstrated ability to and interest in advancing best practices in COPD
- Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team
- Ability to set priorities, organize work and to manage time effectively
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to teach
- Ability to operate related equipment, including a computer utilizing a variety of software applications
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
