About the role

MacDonald Search Group has been asked by our national equipment services client to find a first-class Vice President, Human Resources to join their team in Canada . The primary responsibility of this role will be to lead the development and execution of a people strategy that aligns with the company’s growth trajectory. This is a strategic and operational role, accountable for all HR functions, digital transformation initiatives, and the leadership of a multi-department HR team serving 1,000+ employees across 85+ sites nationwide.

Some of what you will do in this role includes:

  • Partner with the President and senior leadership to refine and execute a people strategy aligned with business growth and operational priorities.
  • Lead a centralized HR Shared Services model across payroll/benefits/HRIS, talent acquisition, talent development, HR business partners, and DEI.
  • Drive enterprise-wide implementation and adoption of Workday HRIS.
  • Oversee the design and rollout of job architecture, salary bands, and total rewards programs (Mercer IPE methodology).
  • Develop and embed competency models linked to hiring, performance, and employee development.
  • Redesign and implement a merit-based performance management system to increase accountability and engagement.
  • Build and scale talent acquisition strategies to attract top talent across a competitive labour market.
  • Launch transformative leadership and career development programs, including open-enrollment learning platforms.
  • Create a succession planning framework with tools and communication plans for leaders across the business.
  • Champion a culture of safety, performance, inclusion, and engagement across a geographically dispersed workforce.
  • Establish HR metrics and workforce analytics (Workday dashboards, Power BI) to link people programs to business outcomes.

You should have the following in your background to apply:

  • 10+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, including at least 7 years in senior executive roles.
  • Experience as a change agent in HR and working in conjunction with the Operations of the organization.
  • Broad HR expertise across talent acquisition, talent development, compensation, payroll/benefits, employee relations, and DEI.
  • Demonstrated success in multi-site, operationally intensive service industries such as construction, logistics, distribution, facility services.
  • Experience leading centralized HR shared services to support decentralized field operations.
  • Proven track record with enterprise-wide HRIS implementation and digital transformation.
  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to connect HR strategy to measurable business outcomes.
  • Skilled communicator and trusted advisor with the ability to influence executives and frontline leaders alike.
  • Strategic thinker with a bias for execution, comfortable leading change in both corporate and field environments.
  • Post secondary education in business, HR, operations, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • CHRP/CHRL designation preferred.
  • Fluency in French is an asset but not required.
  • Hybrid role based at Head Office, with regular travel to locations across Canada.

Success Profile – First 12–24 Months

  • Successfully implement and adoption of Workday HRIS across the organization.
  • Completion and integration of job architecture and total rewards programs using Mercer IPE methodology.
  • Competency model embedded into hiring, performance management, and employee development programs.
  • New merit-based performance management system designed, launched, and adopted company-wide.
  • HR processes integrated with operational workflows, with measurable improvements in productivity, efficiency, and employee engagement.
