Position Overview

Responsibilities
The Infrastructure, Transportation & Parks department requires a temporary, full-time Traffic Engineering Technician until approximately December 2026. Working with other team members, you will perform traffic analyses, assist in the implementation of the parking, road signs & pavement markings, street lighting and traffic signal programs. You will also investigate traffic complaints, conduct field investigations, issue permits, work with applicants to minimize traffic disruptions, and prepare preliminary designs and layouts with recommendations for various projects. You will also perform traffic studies, prepare and present related technical reports with recommendations; provide information, assistance and interpretation to senior staff and general public concerning transportation matters and applicable policies and regulations.
Requirements
You will possess a diploma in a transportation related discipline from a recognized institute of technology, supplemented by sound related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Proficiency in AutoCAD is required, ability to perform analyses using Synchro software, and ASTTBC registration would be assets. A valid Class 5 BC driver’s license is also required.
Compensation
$37.58 to $44.22 per hour
(Pay Grade 21 – January 2024 rates)
This position has a pay structure with five steps, which increase annually.
Hours of Work
Currently, work hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday which includes a compressed work schedule with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately each three-week scheduling cycle. However, employees in this position may be scheduled any seven (7) consecutive hours, exclusive of an unpaid one (1) hour meal break, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, to meet operational requirements.
Additional Information
For temporary full-time positions of 8 months or longer, a City employee who is successful on the posting will have the right to revert to their former position.
