This is a temporary position ending August 7th, 2026. The Division Planner plays a key role in supporting long-term educational infrastructure planning by analyzing data, forecasting student enrolment, and coordinating land use strategies. This position ensures that school sites, student accommodation, and program distribution align with community growth and Division priorities. Through collaboration with internal departments and external agencies, the role informs strategic decisions that shape the future of learning environments across the Division..
Responsibilities:
Develop and Maintain Student Accommodation Plans
- Analyze enrollment trends and demographic data to forecast student population changes
- Identify capacity gaps and recommend priorities for new school construction and modernization
- Compile and interpret data to support Alberta Education reporting requirements
- Collaborate with internal departments to align accommodation strategies with programming needs
- Present findings in accessible formats for decision-makers and stakeholders
Coordinate Land Use and Site Planning
- Review and interpret municipal development plans, bylaws, and proposed developments
- Identify and assess long-term requirements for school sites based on projected growth
- Represent the Division in planning discussions with municipal and provincial authorities
- Monitor residential development trends and assess their impact on school infrastructure
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment with Division priorities
Conduct Data Analysis and Mapping
- Use GIS and other tools to create maps, graphs, and visualizations that support planning initiatives
- Maintain and manipulate student information databases to support capital and boundary reviews
- Integrate external data sources to enrich internal planning models
- Provide data-driven insights to support strategic planning and policy development
Support Cross Division Projects and Committees
- Participate in multi-disciplinary teams and planning committees
- Contribute to the development and revision of Division policies and procedures
- Prepare materials and presentations for internal and public consultations
- Represent the Division in meetings with other school jurisdictions and government agencies
Support Engagement and Evaluation Process
- Collaborate with internal teams to enhance and refine engagement processes across the Division
- Assist in providing consultative input for planning and executing engagement activities
- Contribute strategic insights and logistical support to Division leaders in developing engagement strategies
- Help coordinate and facilitate both in-person and virtual engagement sessions to gather stakeholder input
- Participate in evaluating the effectiveness of engagement initiatives using feedback and performance metrics
- Assist in identifying areas for improvement and support the implementation of recommended changes
- Contribute to the preparation of engagement summaries and reports to inform strategic and operation
QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in Planning or Related field
- Understanding of land use planning principles, municipal development processes, and educational infrastructure systems
- Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial analysis techniques
- Familiarity with research methodologies, statistical analysis, and data interpretation
- Awareness of Alberta’s educational policies, capital planning frameworks, and municipal legislation
- Understanding of project management principles and public consultation processes
- Knowledge of FOIP legislation and information management practices
Skills & Competencies
- Proficient in GIS software, mapping tools, and student information systems; skilled in spatial analysis and synthesizing complex data into clear formats
- Strong written and verbal skills for reports, presentations, and engaging diverse audiences
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders
- Experienced in needs assessments, scenario planning, and developing data-informed recommendations
- Effective time management; adaptable to changing priorities and emerging needs
- Demonstrates accountability, initiative, and commitment to continuous learning
