Grade**:** MCP.07.

The Ministry of Highways is seeking a highly motivated individual with superior stakeholder relations, interpersonal communication and leadership skills to join Central Operations, Traffic Engineering and Development in Saskatoon on a term.

The candidate of choice will have experience and expertise in transportation engineering, particularly in rural driving environments. They will have a solid working knowledge of safety, geometric, and human factors best practices and industry standards, as well as hydraulics and general roadway design principles. They will have the ability to provide guidance and leadership to a diverse team and demonstrate skills relating to building relationships with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate the goals and objectives of the Ministry of Highways.

The key responsibilities of the successful candidate will include, but not be limited to:

  • Review of existing highway facilities relating to operational concerns and safety;
  • Analyze and interpret collision data, configurations, trends, and causes;
  • Solve complex problems using both standard industry interventions and innovative solutions;
  • Guide, mentor, and coach a team of professional engineers and technicians;
  • Providing expertise to guide future planning of urban development areas outside of the highway to ensure alignment with the future infrastructure and traffic needs;
  • Review of hydraulic information relating to highway infrastructure and assessing for potential upstream or downstream impacts, adherence to standards, and regulatory agency requirements;
  • Giving presentations in a public forum to a variety of audiences;
  • Use of or interpretation of analysis using software including Synchro and Vissim or equivalent;
  • Engaging with other governments, stakeholders and consultants on a variety of issues along the highway network; and
  • Making sound recommendations of funding to meet key government goals and objectives relating to network safety improvements and collision reduction.

The ideal candidate will possess a BSc. Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent and be eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS) with a 5-10 years of experience.
