The Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Statistician to join the newly established Population Health and Outcomes Research program within the Section of Cardiology, Department of Internal Medicine at Saint Boniface Hospital. This program is led by Dr Setor Kunutsor, Professor, Evelyn Wyrzykowski Research Chair in Cardiology.
The Population Health and Outcomes Research program is dedicated to advancing knowledge and innovation in the field of cardiology with a strong emphasis on preventing cardiovascular disease (CVD) and related outcomes and enhancing patient outcomes. Our key goals include:

Evaluating the role of modifiable lifestyle, environmental and behavioral risk factors in the development and prevention of CVD.

Optimizing risk stratification and preventive strategies for CVD.
-
Enhancing the diagnosis of CVD.
-
Improving the efficacy of treatments for CVD.
-
Investigating ethnic disparities in the progression, prevention and treatment of CVDs.
Our program focuses on three main themes:

Population and Real-World Evidence: Leveraging large-scale epidemiological and clinical data to inform clinical practice and health policies.

Evidence Synthesis: Conducting systematic reviews and meta-analyses to synthesize existing research and identify gaps in the evidence.
-
Interventions: Designing and evaluating randomized controlled trials to test preventive and therapeutic strategies.
The Research Associate in Statistics will play a pivotal role in the program, leading the statistical analyses of large epidemiological and clinical datasets. The successful candidate will help advance cardiovascular health and make a significant impact on patient outcomes through cutting-edge research and innovation.
The salary range for this position is $50,000-$71,575per annum (35 hours/week), commensurate with qualifications and experience, and will be for an initial 1-year term with possibility for extension. The anticipated start date is November 1, 2024, or at a mutually agreed upon date.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Principal Investigator, Dr. Kunutsor. Responsibilities include:

Design and conduct of cutting-edge statistical analysis of large datasets including epidemiological, clinical and electronic health data
-
Data cleaning and management
-
Contributing to the interpretation and dissemination of research findings through high-impact publications.

Stimulate ideas and contribute to the design, development and implementation of research projects
-
Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of researchers
-
Assist with development of grant proposals including preparation and submission of funding applications.

Develop own grant applications
-
Coordinate and participate in research team meetings and provide oral and written updates.

Provide statistical support to team members and clinical colleagues
Qualifications:
-
Advanced degree (PhD or equivalent) in Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Mathematics or a related field
-
Extensive experience in analyzing large epidemiological and clinical datasets.
-
An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
-
Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., R, SAS, STATA) and sound knowledge of advanced biostatistical methods
-
Good oral and written language skills in English.
-
Familiarity with the field of population or public health and health service delivery would be an asset but not required.
Experience and Skills:
-
Experience in complex data management will be an asset
-
Experience in randomized controlled trial design and methodology
-
Strong collaborative skills and a track record of working effectively in multidisciplinary teams including academic, clinical and non-academic individuals.

Experience with drafting reports, academic publications, and presentations
-
Good organizational skills and ability to multitask
-
Experience in project management
-
Must be familiar with privacy, confidentiality and security issues related to research.
