Job description and duties

Coast Mountain College (CMTN), Terrace Campus, invites applications for a continuing full-time Student Recruiter commencing as soon as possible. We are seeking a passionate individual who wants to join us in our goal to become the college of choice for experiential, place-based learning allowing students to learn both in the classroom and in the spectacular outdoor spaces that are so unique to this part of Canada. Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Support Staff, Level 12: $2,646.00 biweekly plus a comprehensive benefits plan.

Duties: The Student Recruiter will have a meaningful influence on students and community members by attracting perspective students to CMTN. This position will coordinate CMTN’s Strategic Recruitment Plan, and provide advice and recommendations to the Manager on all matters related to student recruitment. This position will involve travel within the region and evening and weekend work also.

Duties will include but will not be limited to the following:

  • Meet application recruitment targets set by the Manager/Director through carefully planned and executed recruitment events and outreach within Northwest BC and in wider National markets as required.
  • Design recruitment efforts for a variety of audiences including, but not limited to, secondary school students and community members of various ages and backgrounds.
  • Develop and give engaging presentations to small and large groups, using a focused marketing approach. Utilize critical thinking skills to tailor presentations to different audiences.
  • Establish and build relationships with key contacts to encourage referral of prospective students, promote the College and enhance its reputation across various markets. This includes K to 12 school counsellors, teachers, government and non-profit agencies, parents, community groups, business associations, local First Nations, among others.
  • Research and recommend community and business events, fairs, shows, and other external initiatives and venues to exhibit and recruit students.
  • Participate on behalf of CMTN in a wide range of on- and off-campus events that are promotional and/or informational in nature such as the Post-secondary BC (PSBC) tours, Out of Province (OOP) events, community trade shows/expos, and career fairs.
  • Promote and market CMTN throughout northwest BC and elsewhere within Canada as directed.
  • Conduct campus tours for small or large groups at the Terrace campus and as required at other CMTN campuses.
  • Collaborate with the Manager to develop and maintain recruitment presentations and gather current displays and promotional materials.
  • Utilize strategic decision-making skills and judgment to tailor booth displays and information to target audiences at a variety of venues and event types.

Qualifications

Qualifications/Skills: A minimum of a two-year diploma or undergraduate degree (preferably in Business, Education, Communications or Marketing) along with 3 years of related experience in the areas of student recruitment, marketing, or communications.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

  • Knowledge of Colleague, Outlook, MS Office and social media platforms
  • Valid BC Driver’s License and a clean driver’s abstract
  • Able to travel extensively as well as work evenings and weekends when required. Travel is required up to but not exceeding 33% of work hours in a given year
  • Extensive knowledge of CMTN policies, procedures, and operations
  • Ability to interpret data to drive strategic recruitment practices
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience providing positive client service to a diverse group of people
  • Demonstrated ability to speak effectively to groups
  • Demonstrated ability to create and deliver engaging and dynamic presentations
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to determine priorities and be self-directed
  • Work efficiently under pressure of deadlines despite interruptions
  • Familiarity with the Truth and Reconciliation call to action, particularly as they relate to the education sector
