If you’re passionate about technology and eager to grow your career, NAV CANADA is hiring a System Administrator (Active Directory, Email, M365).

In this role, you will work with evolving technologies to secure our infrastructure, provide systems specialization, and provide functional and technical guidance to technical and management teams. You’ll also contribute to the full lifecycle of complex infrastructure domains, including planning, development, configuration, implementation, and ongoing enhancements. The technology domains may include one or more of: Client Computing, Digital Workplace or other.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Manage, support and provide subject-matter expertise of Active Directory Domain Services, including Entra ID, GPO, DNS, LDAP, to ensure the services are healthy and up to date
  • Support on-premises, hybrid and cloud-based solution and configuration including but not limited to Domain Controllers, SAML, OAuth, Entra ID, Entra Connect and M365 platform.
  • Administer and support Microsoft 365 Platform and services, including SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, Teams, Office 365 and other productivity and collaboration apps
  • Manage, support and provide subject-matter expertise of Enterprise-level communication systems and services, including MS Exchange, MS Exchange Online, MS Teams and VoIP
  • Provide 2nd and 3rd level support, utilizing ITIL-based practices, to troubleshoot and resolves system incidents, problems, and changes, related to authentication, identity, messaging, productivity and collaboration platforms, and mobile management systems
  • As subject-matter expert, work with system owners and technical teams across the organisation to resolve issues that require a cross-functional solution
  • Design, plan, implement and test system configuration, interface and interconnection.
  • Research and advise on best practices and requirements related to security, implementation, and configuration of Client Computing services.
  • Review and evaluate enhancements or changes for operational viability, recommending the acceptance or rejection of requests for change
  • Using PowerShell, automate common or repetitive tasks and provide scripts to support the reporting, configuration, and maintenance of systems and processes

Job Requirements

Education:

A college diploma or university degree from a recognized institution in the field of computer science or information systems, or an acceptable combination of education, experience and training.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years experience administering and supporting Domain Services, Identity and Access management, Enterprise-level communication and collaboration platforms while following structured change control processes within large Enterprise-level environments.
  • Experience with MS Active Directory, MS Entra ID, MS Entra Connect, MS PowerShell, M365 platform and products (Teams, SharePoint Online, Office 365, OneDrive), in an on-premise, hybrid and/or cloud-only deployments.
  • Hands-on experience managing Active Directory Domain Services operation including infrastructure components, group policies, OU administration, site replication, and Cloud Authentication or other authentication methods for hybrid identity solutions.
  • Experience with MS Exchange and Exchange Online operation, maintenance and support, including patching, certificate renewals, upgrades, OWA, SMTP services, and routing.
  • Experience with IT frameworks and process such as ITIL, Incident /Change / Problem Management, Quality Management, Project Management, Patch Management and Life-cycle processes and guidelines.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of the design, implementation, maintenance, testing and integration of Identity and Access Management (IAM) systems and solutions, MS Entra Administration and Cloud Authentication, including Single Sign-On (SSO), Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and security protocols such as LDAP/LDAPS, SAML, and OAuth, both on-premises and cloud-base.
  • Knowledge of the design, support, life cycle of shared infrastructure services and client computing technology such as MS Active Directory Domain Services, MS Entra ID, MS Exchange and MS Exchange Online, MS SharePoint Online, MS Teams, M365 platform and services.
  • Knowledge of the design, support, life cycle and industry trends for shared infrastructure services and client computing technology.
  • Knowledge of supporting mobility management, messaging, access and identity management environments, configuration and concepts including AD integration, Directory services replication/synchronization, conditional access policies and Access Control (RBAC)
  • Knowledge of infrastructure and system configuration, management tools and scripting such as PowerShell

  • Provide expert advice, guidance, and opinions in area of specialization, through knowledge sharing, coaching, mentoring, creative thinking, including developing and maintaining technical documentation such as architecture and design documents, test and implementation plans, processes, procedures, maintenance, and support documents.
  • Excellent analytical skills to assess, test, troubleshoot, determine root cause, and recommend new courses of actions/process improvement
  • Strong written and oral communication, and customer service skills

Working conditions:

  • Work location is Ottawa – Logistics Centre, Tom Roberts Ave. This position is a hybrid position with a minimum – 3 days per week on site.
  • Typically conducted in a cubicle and/or open office and/or meeting room and/or lab environments using computer-based tools.
