1.0 FTE BRIDGE Program Teacher

Student Support Services


This is a temporary assignment effective September 1,2026to June 30, 2027**.**This position is to be worked at Shuswap Middle School.

The assignment is to an inclusive support program for students with complex

behavior challenges in a school setting. This program offers a combined educational and social emotional support for students who have received level 1 and level 2 supports/interventions and require more significant supports.

The aim of the ISP is to support students in the acquisition of lagging skills

and strategies to enable them to successfully function in a regular classroom setting. Appropriate experience at the secondary school level and/or background in L.R.T., positive behavior supports, counselling is recommended.

The teacher must be able to develop a highly individualized program for

students and successfully work with parents and staff to support the needs of students.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or equivalent in Special Education or current registration in program; and/or a degree in counselling or social work;
  • valid BC teaching certificate and current membership in the Teacher Regulation Branch;
  • a senior level course and experience in Level B assessment.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training (or willingness to train)

Teachers applying for this position should possess the following attributes:

  • Deep understanding of the core and curricular competencies
  • a demonstrated ability to build strong, positive relationships with students, staff and parents
  • successful classroom teaching experience;
  • effective classroom management skills using a PBS approach;
  • deep understanding and experience in working with students who have experienced trauma
  • strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • understand and utilizes solid student transition practices;
  • a demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development;
  • experience in developing and implementing behavioral and academic IEPs;
  • demonstrated leadership capability and enthusiasm toward participating with students in both school and recreational activities;
  • successful experience in case management and multi-agency collaborations;
