HOURS OF WORK:

The Inpatient Clerk supports the patient care team and the patient experience on inpatient units. Responsibilities include: reception duties for calls and visits to the unit from internal staff, non-PRHC personnel; non-clinical patient assistance (responding to general inquiries, directing patients and visitors to the most appropriate clinical team member, providing assistance to obtain services); facilitation of communication (receiving mail, fax).

Approximate # of hours: 22.5

Type of Shifts: Days, evenings, nights, weekends, stats

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

The Inpatient Clerk supports the patient care team and the patient experience on inpatient units. WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  • Successful completion of a Hospital Nursing Unit Secretary Certificate or an equivalent combination of education and work experience

WHO YOU ARE:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations
  • Demonstrated basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and Word
  • Accurate keyboarding skills: 4500 keystrokes per hour
  • Ability to type 35 words per minute
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent telephone manner
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently or in a group as part of a team
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and complete work within set deadlines
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to reprioritize tasks
  • Demonstrated ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
