Job Summary The Sr. Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is responsible for the successful implementation of the regional field-based component of the Medical Affairs Therapeutic Area (TA) Strategic Plan, in close collaboration with the MSL and field teams, and under the direction of the Director, Neurology Medical Affairs.

The MSL, Neurology is a disease state and product expert, responsible for developing and maintaining professional relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOL) in Western Canada as they relate to Eisai's products. The candidate in this position will be involved in medical education, preparing and delivering scientific presentations referent to Eisai disease state and products to healthcare professionals, including but not limited to physicians from different specialties, clinical researchers, medical directors, formulary committees, pharmacists, among others.

The MSL will have the following impact and contributions to the organization:

  • As representatives of Eisai, a MSL will communicate key information about Eisai, the company and its hhc (human health care) mission;
  • Provide key scientific and clinical information about Eisai's products; provide a conduit for communication between Eisai Research and the medical community regarding ideas for future research with Eisai's products;
  • Support Marketing, Sales, Market Access/ Value Access & Policy, and Regulatory Affairs teams by providing in-depth scientific, clinical and educational support as needed.

The successful candidate must be a dynamic, self-starter who can thrive in a fast-paced environment while demonstrating leadership and initiative. The MSL will have a tremendous opportunity to contribute to achieving Medical Affairs strategies goals, by collecting field insights and contributing to the scientific development of our products’ life-cycle. Additionally, they will have the scientific expertise to support medical deliverables while closely collaborating with their MSL peers, and with cross-functional head office and field colleagues.

The responsibilities of the MSL include but are not limited to:

Work with key professionals in the area of Neurology and Primary Care, educating key healthcare professionals with current medical, scientific and pharmacoeconomic information on Eisai's products and therapeutic areas. Increase the awareness of Eisai products and disease areas, and via scientific exchange allow the key healthcare professionals to make informed therapeutic decisions.

  • Develop working peer-to-peer relationships with healthcare professionals, influencers and opinion leaders within their area of expertise.
  • Work with clinical investigators and researchers to support and facilitate clinical trials (both Eisai sponsored and investigator-sponsored studies).
  • Assist in the preparation and execution of Regional Advisory Board meetings for Eisai's products, including preparing and delivering presentations, facilitating discussion and discussing/acting on insights.
  • Provide resources for presenting and discussing medical information and scientific data; allowing Eisai to glean information from physicians about the utility of our products and how they compare in the marketplace, through a learned intermediary. Contribute to the development of the Neurology Medical strategic plan.
  • Review and critically appraise scientific literature and develop, in collaboration with Medical, Market Access, and Marketing teams, key information summaries for Sales Reps and other internal stakeholders. Respond to Medical information inquiries for unsolicited requests.

Other activities might include:

  • Support the Medical Directors on the strategic and tactical planning and scientific content to support the execution of selected Medical Affairs initiatives
  • Develop scientific resources for internal and/or external use
  • Assist with congress preparations and related publications
  • Support the Medical Director in the review of promotional materials
  • Represent Medical Affairs on cross-functional teams as appropriate and needed
  • The MSL will work collaboratively with cross-functional stakeholders and may support projects in other business functions, depending on business needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced terminal degree in medical/biosciences (e.g M.D., PhD, PharmD, DPH, EdD)
  • Previous MSL experience in the therapeutic area
  • Previous pharma/industry related experience
  • An independent self-starter with the ability to work effectively both alone and with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong broad-based scientific and pharmaceutical knowledge as well as excellent presentation and teaching skills
  • Strong overall written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities within established timelines and budgets.
  • Able to manage a frequent travel schedule, with 30-50% overnight travel.

Good to Know :

  • Strong computer skills including applications for word processing, producing slide materials and working with spreadsheets.
  • Understanding of commercial operations including Marketing and Sales strategic interests.
  • Clinical research/drug development experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two or more years of experience in Medical Affairs
  • Previous knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease
  • Relevant experience in Neurology or primary care
  • Experience in medical education and familiarity with adult learning principles

  • Understanding of local regulations and Innovative Medicines Canada Code of Ethical Practices

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to interact with and help facilitate consensus among individuals across the organization
  • Proven team player with the ability to navigate complex and diverse teams
  • Ability to understand complex clinical information, the context and adapt it strategically
  • Strong work ethic and results orientation
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced and complex environment
  • Demonstrates pride in their work and will positively contribute to Eisai human health care (hhc) vision by modeling Eisai values of professionalism, integrity, quality and respect in the work environment
