Downtown Ambassador – Team Lead

The Downtown Winnipeg BIZ promotes, cares and advocates for a vibrant and inclusive downtown where

perceptions so downtown is seen as a place full of life, energy and opportunity. Our downtown is on Treaty No. 1

territory and the National Homeland of the Red River Métis.

Reporting to the Downtown Ambassadors Manager, the Downtown Ambassador Team Lead is responsible for the

daily coordination of tasks for the Downtown Ambassadors, on-shift supervision and coaching/mentoring of team

members. The Team Lead works alongside the Downtown Ambassadors, providing on the street customer service

and support for all downtown businesses and members of the public by answering questions, promoting Downtown

Winnipeg BIZ programs and services and businesses we serve.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Team Lead Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily leadership, coaching, and support to the Downtown Ambassador team
  • Assign tasks, coordinate daily operations, and adjust priorities as needed
  • Lead by example by actively performing Ambassador duties in the field
  • Monitor team performance and ensure policies, procedures, and service standards are followed
  • Address routine staff concerns and escalate more complex issues to the Manager when needed
  • Support onboarding and offboarding of team members
  • Share updates, priorities, and operational changes clearly and consistently with the team
  • Identify operational issues, safety concerns, and service trends, and report them to leadership
  • Recommend practical improvements to strengthen team effectiveness and service delivery

Ambassador Responsibilities:

  • Serve as an on-street concierge by answering questions about downtown businesses, directions,

parking, events, and BIZ services

  • Provide courtesy walks and support members of the public in the downtown area
  • Promote Downtown Winnipeg BIZ programs, services, events, and local businesses
  • Support BIZ events, programs, and other community initiatives
  • Build positive relationships with BIZ members through regular business visits, feedback gathering, and

follow-up support

  • Help onboard new BIZ members and introduce them to available services
  • Assist with surveys, promotional materials, and member outreach
  • Help track business openings, relocations, and closures to keep records current
  • Report safety, cleanliness, and infrastructure concerns through established processes
  • Address minor cleanliness issues and perform graffiti removal when needed
  • Support day-to-day BIZ operations, including occasional reception coverage and other tasks as

required

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have at least 1–3 years of customer service experience

  • At least 1 year of experience leading a team, or comparable experience in a public-facing or service-

oriented role

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, team building, and leadership skills
  • Ability to provide clear direction, coaching, and feedback to support team performance
  • Effective conflict resolution and problem-solving skills, with the ability to address routine concerns and

escalate when needed

  • Sound judgment and decision-making in dynamic, public-facing environments
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage day-to-day operations, and adapt to changing needs
  • Strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to coordinate work and resources

independently

  • Ability to engage and connect with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds
  • Knowledge of Downtown Winnipeg is considered ideal
  • Experience learning and using digital tools, including Microsoft 365 and Salesforce; data tracking and

reporting skills

  • Possession of a Class 5 driver’s license is an asset

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Available to work - days, evenings, and weekends

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods while promoting The BIZ or attending

events

  • Ability to walk, stand, and move throughout Downtown Winnipeg on assigned routes for the duration

of a shift, in all weather conditions

  • May require lifting and carrying materials related to Ambassador duties
  • May occasionally be required to operate or ride in a company vehicle
