Job Description:

This job is a secondment/temporary role that is anticipated to end no later than October 31, 2026.

This job posting will run concurrently for internal and external applicants. However, for the first ten (10) calendar days, current employees of Toronto Harbour Light Ministries that are members of CUPE Local 3798.08 will receive hiring preference.

POSITION SUMMARY:

To present a professional image of Harbour Light to both the public and the residents living within the Centre, maintaining a high level of courtesy and accuracy in matters of clerical responsibility. To assure the security of the premises, the safety of the residents, and the smooth running of the building.

WORKING RELATIONSHIP(S)

  • Reports directly to Program Coordinator, Transitional Housing
  • Works closely with other program coordinators and managers within the building
  • Responsibility to follow all directions from Director of Client Services, the Assistant Executive Director and the Executive Director

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES

  • Provide safety and security for our residents, students, volunteers, staff and visitors to the facility.
  • Ensure those entering the facility are not under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • Provide front-line reception responsibilities, including operation of a multiline telephone system, and greeting of all visitors
  • Log and distribute all documentation to the appropriate facility staff or clients
  • Respond to email as required
  • Generate pertinent observational/incident reports and report to the appropriate Director and/or Executive Director
  • Hourly rounds for residential areas, including security pass logging
  • Administrative and medical areas
  • Common areas and residential areas as required
  • Monitor Resident Passes
  • Shift change transfer of knowledge, written report, and close shift procedures and transfer of information, as required
  • Collection of urine sample (requested and random)
  • Process security passes/access, including taking a picture for each card and fingerprint scan procedures
  • Referring individuals to withdrawal management services and hospitals in consultation with the on-call management and onsite staff
  • Assist in the facility's fire evacuation plan, including recording and monitoring attendance, providing fire safety for vulnerable residents
  • Ensure all facility-related concerns are entered into the facility management system (Angus Anywhere)
  • Photocopy forms as required
  • Acts as a point person for elevator call, as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Educational Requirements

  • The successful job applicant will have completed up to two (2) years of Community College, preferably within the social services sector. NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.
  • Minimum Prior Related Experience
  • Experience with multi-line telephone systems
  • Experience within the social services sector, and/or mental health agencies
  • Experience with security systems
  • Experience in customer service or information desk service is an asset
  • Keyboarding and demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, email, and internet applications
  • Awareness of community resources.

  • The incumbent's work environment is typically in an office.
  • Managing complex clients who have anger, mental health and substance use concerns
  • Inclement weather
  • The incumbent may have little to no travel.

Vulnerable Sector Check: an original copy of a current Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) that is less than six (6) months old is required by your start date, and the results of the check must be acceptable to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion. The cost of the VSC is borne by the employee.

Compensation: Please note that this job falls under a collective agreement. The hourly rate for the position is set at $18.65, and wage increments are provided based on collective agreement language.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $18.65 to $18.99 with a maximum of $19.32.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
