About the Role:

Everest Insurance Company of Canada, a member of Everest Re Group, Ltd., is seeking a Corporate Accounting Specialist for their Toronto office. The Corporate Accounting Specialist for Everest Insurance Company of Canada will report to the Assistant Vice President of Everest Insurance Company of Canada. As a key member of the Finance team, the Corporate Accounting Specialist will be responsible for certain processes in the monthly and quarterly close including but not limited to the accounting, regulatory, reporting and process improvement.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare complex reports for various lines of business including journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Works in a dynamic environment and contributes to ad hoc projects within the finance team and throughout the operation.
  • Assist in the application of IFRS 17 accounting standards.
  • Work with the Finance team to drive forward process and system improvements to increase the efficiency and availability of reinsurance and other Financial data for analysis and reporting.
  • Support internal / external audit processes in conjunction with the general ledger controls, including co-ordination between the external auditors and various operational areas within the Company.
  • Collaborate with reinsurers, underwriters and claims personnels to settle and record balances as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Completion of a University degree in a relevant field and preferably CPA designation.
  • Demonstrated success in the insurance industry with a minimum of 3 years’ experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting theory and practice, leadership skills and project management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, superior attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient at Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Power Point) and general ledger software.

The base salary range for this position is CAD 75,000 - CAD 90,000 annually. The offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, experience, qualifications and work location.
