The Ministry of Energy and Resources is seeking a highly motivated, confident, and results-oriented Data Management Engineer to join the Resource Management Branch in Regina.

The Data Management Engineer will perform regulatory and petroleum engineering functions with respect to the development of the province’s oil and gas resources. This role focuses on analyzing datasets to identify trends, ensure data accuracy and provide insights that support decision-making. This role also contributes to the development of new tools, processes and standards for effective data management. Additional responsibilities include evaluating reservoirs for the determination of remaining oil and gas reserves in the province as part of a team, conducting engineering evaluations of proposals primarily submitted by the oil and gas industry and participating in developing new or modifying existing regulations and processes.

Reporting to the Manager, Well Development, your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting engineering and technical evaluations, including review of applications submitted by the industry to ensure compliance with regulations and requirements using risk-based principles.
  • Conducting engineering research and data analysis to determine gaps, address inconsistencies and recommend strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Leading working groups and teams to meet business objectives using data analytics.
  • Developing and leveraging data analytics techniques to support business objectives such as audits, production analysis, and application submission.
  • Providing thought leadership and best practice approaches to support projects’ regulatory enhancements and business improvements using advanced data modelling.
  • Developing databases for audit, compliance, and other processes to provide data management solutions.
  • Representing the Branch on various working groups and committees related to the responsibilities as required.

To qualify for this position, you will have a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, preferably in the petroleum discipline, and be registered (or provide proof of eligibility for registration) in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan. You will have sound knowledge of and direct experience in engineering, data analytics and legislation governing the oil and gas industry.
