Position Summary

Reporting to the Foreman, Facilities Services, the Operator II must sustain a level of maintenance to ensure safe, healthy, and comfortable environment is provided for facility users in City facilities.

Responsibilities

include, but are not limited to:

  • HVAC preventable maintenance, servicing, and inspections to include exhaust fans, air conditioning, heating, and humidity control systems. Coordinate inspections and repairs for all fire suppression and safety/security systems. Obtain certificates and record inspections for all equipment.
  • Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting for ice plants. Maintain inspection logs and oversee contractors as required for preventative maintenance and repairs on the ice plants.
  • General maintenance duties/repairs – plumbing, minor electrical maintenance, carpentry, patching/painting, purchase, and disposal of project materials, exterior Christmas lights and decorations.
  • Troubleshooting/problem solving and reporting of facility operational concerns as they pertain to facility interiors and building envelopes.
  • Coordinate and supervise contractors’ projects and work schedules to successful conclusion. Ensure work quality and budgets are met.
  • Administrative duties, work planning, including purchase order/invoice processing, quotes and contracts, handling and provide technical assistance with capital projects.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess a Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License and must be able to obtain and maintain an RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance to provide coverage at RCMP if required. A minimum of two years in building maintenance and a mechanical aptitude is required. Building Maintenance Level I and Level II Certification, Elevated Work Platform Training, Fall Arrest Training, Confined Space Training, and WHMIS Certification are required. The incumbent will have working knowledge and experience of the safe usage of powered and hand operated tools and facility equipment. A high aptitude and experience in the operation of various building systems and ice plants is required. Troubleshooting abilities with building mechanical systems including computerized building controls systems is essential. The successful candidate will have the ability to make practical, fair, and objective decisions to find solutions to problems. This is a physically demanding position that entails walking, lifting, use of ladders and working outdoors in all weather conditions, with frequent exposure to loud mechanical noise.

This position is within the scope of C.U.P.E. Local 30, and as such, you will be required to adhere to the articles contained within the Collective Agreement. A current 5-year Driver’s Abstract will be required at the time of interview.

Hours of Work: 80 hours bi-weekly
(Varying shifts – days, nights and weekends)
