Job Details Temporary Part Time (Non-UnionT)
Posting Status Open to all current Town of Oakville employees and external applicants
Duration Two contract positions available, lasting for approximately four months.
Closing Date Applications for this position must be received at by no later than 11:59 pm on October 26, 2025. Hours of work will be a minimum of 14 hours per week; candidates may be required to work varying shifts including weekends. Shifts are assigned based on operational needs and subject to change, however, anticipated winter shift will be two (2), seven (7) hour shifts with one (1) hour unpaid lunch break from 7:00 am – 3:00 pm.
In addition to the scheduled 14 hours per week, candidates will be required to be “on call” for after hours, weekend and holidays. Candidates will be compensated at one (1) hour pay rate per each weekday not scheduled to work and two (2) hours pay rate for each weekend day and stat holidays to be “on call”. During peak winter weather conditions, scheduled hours of work may vary and may increase.
Reporting to and under the direct supervision of the Supervisor of Works Contracted Services or designate, and working under minimal task direction, this position is responsible for duties related to but not limited to roads and works winter maintenance operations within the Town’s Roads and Works Department.
Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for overseeing the work of contractors involved in winter road plowing, sidewalk plowing and other snow clearing operations.
- Perform winter related inspections, contract administration, customer complaint tracking and documentation – measuring quality of work performed by the contractor, maintaining daily work records of events, inspection of performance measures, customer complaint tracking and documentation, prepare field summary forms for contractor’s and compute payments.
- Prepare and complete written reports with accuracy.
- Safe and efficient operation, care and maintenance of equipment and vehicles.
- Maintain daily written records of work-related activities.
- Apply safety precautions and procedure in the performance of all duties, in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Transportation Act and Policies of the Corporation.
- Communicate courteously with the general public, and where necessary, refer them to a permanent staff member.
- Perform inspections on a variety of Operations Maintenance Programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Graduate of a three (3) year Civil Engineering Technology program or Transportation Technology diploma program, (consideration may be given to those currently enrolled and nearing completion) or any combination of training, education and experience deemed equivalent in municipal design, contract administration and project management. A combination of equivalent education and experience may be considered.
- Demonstrate a good understanding and proficiency in PC based computer software specifically in Microsoft Word and Excel spreadsheets. Some experience in Auto Cad and ESRI, GIS software would be an asset.
- Must hold and provide a copy of a valid and unrestricted Ontario Driver’s License Class G minimum with a driving record that demonstrates responsible and safe driving behavior. Note: Applicants with 6 or more points are ineligible for consideration. Successful applicants will be required to provide the Corporation with a current drivers abstract (no older than 30 days) and all new hires will be required to pass a Town administered road test as a condition of employment.
- Ability to deal with the public courteously and effectively.
- Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
- Good interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills.
- Ability and willingness to work in varying climate conditions.
- The successful applicants will be required to provide their own CSA approved green patch work boots.
- The successful applicants will abide by Ontario Health & Safety Legislation and follow Corporate Health & Safety Policies.
