About the role
Acuren is currently seeking a Tank Inspection Supervisor to support and lead Above-Ground Storage Tank (AST) inspection and integrity programs across the Prairies Region.
Under the direction of the Inspection Manager, the Tank Inspection Supervisor will play a critical role in ensuring the safe, compliant, and reliable execution of API-based tank inspection and construction activities. This is more than a supervisory role — it’s an opportunity to provide technical leadership, drive program excellence, and support continuous improvement across Acuren’s tank inspection services.
Position Information
- Oversees API-653 in-service tank inspections and API-650 construction and repair activities
- Acts as Acuren’s subject-matter expert for storage tank inspection, integrity assessment, and applicable regulatory and industry codes

Responsibilities Leadership & Program Oversight
- Supervise Tank Inspectors and project personnel performing API-653 and API-650 inspection, repair, and construction activities.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and technical guidance to inspection teams across the Prairies Region.
- Ensure compliance with Acuren policies, client PEIM/IMS systems, and applicable codes and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee documentation, workflows, and technical processes supporting tank inspection and integrity programs.
Technical Quality & Review
- Review and approve API-653 inspection reports, repair recommendations, and inspection work packages.
- Validate technical assessments and calculations, including corrosion rates, remaining life, minimum thickness, hydrotest requirements, and settlement or out-of-roundness evaluations.
- Develop, maintain, and continuously improve tank inspection procedures, work instructions, and best-practice guidelines.
- Prepare training materials and deliver technical training to inspectors and operations personnel as required.
Inspection & Field Activities
- Conduct periodic audits of in-service tank inspections, construction projects, repair activities, and associated NDE work.
- Support the development of inspection plans, scopes of work, and repair or mitigation strategies.
- Coordinate resources for tank internal and external inspections, repairs, and construction oversight activities.
- Participate in incident investigations and root-cause analyses related to tank integrity issues or non-conformances.
Client & Project Support
- Oversees the execution of tank inspection projects from scope development and quoting through field execution, reporting, and close-out.
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for tank integrity and inspection matters within the assigned region.
- Attend client meetings, provide status updates, and communicate inspection findings and recommendations.
- Support proposal development through technical input, scope clarification, and cost estimation.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships to support long-term program success.
Growth & Continuous Improvement
- Collaborate with the Commercial team to identify growth opportunities and support business development initiatives.
- Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and code updates to strengthen Acuren’s tank inspection programs.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, efficiency, and technical execution.
- Support corporate initiatives related to quality management, risk reduction, and operational excellence.

Mandatory
- API-653 – Above-Ground Storage Tank Inspector
- Valid CSO/CSTS (or equivalent Safety Orientation Certification)
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.
Technical Knowledge The successful candidate will demonstrate advanced technical knowledge in the following areas:
- API-653 in-service tank inspection requirements, including fitness-for-service principles, corrosion mechanisms (API 571), settlement evaluation, and repair assessment criteria.
- API-650 tank construction standards, welding requirements, NDE methods, and tank repair or alteration activities in accordance with API-653 and industry best practices.
- Interpretation of 3D laser scan data to assess settlement, shell out-of-roundness, peaking, banding, and denting, and to determine compliance with API-653 acceptance criteria.
- Related codes and regulations, including API 510, API-570, CSA/ULC standards, provincial storage tank regulations, and owner-specific integrity programs.
- QA/QC processes, welding inspection, procedure qualification, and construction oversight for new builds, retrofits, and major repairs.
- Risk-based inspection (RBI) principles, inspection planning, and integrity-based decision making.
Skills
- Strong technical writing skills for producing inspection reports, procedures, presentations, and repair recommendations.
- Excellent ability to interpret drawings, weld maps, inspection records, NDE results, and engineering assessments.
- Proven leadership and team supervision skills, including coaching, performance management, and workload coordination.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with inspectors, engineers, project managers, clients, and contractors.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound technical decisions under pressure.
- Proficiency with Excel-based reporting tools, macros, digital inspection platforms, 3D scan review software, and data management systems.
Abilities
- Ability to lead inspection teams and ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to review, validate, and approve complex inspection reports and technical documentation.
