Registered Nurse, Pacemaker Clinic
About the role
Sinai Health is looking for a Registered Nurse (RN) to support the Pacemaker Clinic. The role is located at our Mount Sinai Hospital Campus.. The RN has a specialty-based focus that supports the nursing clinical management of cardiac patients with rhythm disturbances. You will be part of a team applying nursing knowledge-based practice for the care of cardiac patients with implanted devices
In This Role You Will
- Perform cardiac device checks and programming/ to interrogate, interpret and reprogram cardiac devices (pacemakers, biventricular pacemakers and defibrillators)
- Interpret cardiac arrhythmia
- Arrange new pacemaker implantations and pulse generator replacements
- Plan and schedule procedures in coordination with the implanting nursing and medical team, initial communications with potential recipients of devices and their families
- Practice within the RN scope, uses and demonstrates a comprehensive theoretical knowledge base clinical competence in triaging, assessing and supporting cardiac patients referred to the pacemaker clinic
- Collect and interpret data about the health of the patient in order to implement appropriate plans for care in collaboration with the medical team
- Support patients and families through education regarding illnesses, diagnostic tests, treatment and support services
- Consult with health care professionals in the management of discharged patients, arranging follow-up in the ambulatory clinic and promoting continuity
- Provide telephone contact with patients, families and caregivers as needed
- Develop and maintain standards of nursing practice and management of patient care
- Interpret and foster the philosophy, goals and standards of the Department of Nursing Participates in research activities and initiating and implementing evidence based practice to support outpatient practices
- Participate in corporate education and professional development activities/programs; performing activities to further develop and strengthen the profession of nursing
- Promote and support the maintenance of a safe patient care and work environment from a practice perspective
- Collaborate with the leadership team in creating a positive work environment
- Perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required
Job Requirements Mandatory
- Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in cardiac device checks and programming
- Proficiency in the interrogation, testing and programming of pacemakers in common use in Ontario
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
Preferred
- Previous Pacemaker Clinic experience
- Cardiology certification from Canadian Nurses Association
Skills and Knowledge
- Working knowledge in the interpretation of ECG’s of patients with pacemaker
- Member of RNAO or other professional associations / organizations relevant to the role
- Expertise in comprehensive cardiac nursing assessment
- Expertise in the use and interpretation of pacemaker programming and diagnostic abilities
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Organizational and time management skills with the proven ability to manage competing demands
- Strong decision making, problem recognition, problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Demonstrated commitment to collaborative practice
- Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history
