Reporting to the Inspector of Learning, Recruitment & Development, the Learning Development Unit Manager will be responsible for overseeing the Calgary Police Services' cloud-based Learning Management System, ensuring optimal system performance, data integrity and audit readiness. You will lead a team of curriculum designers as well as collaborate with subject matter experts to develop impactful, future-ready learning programs aligned with adult learning principles and organizational priorities. With a focus on innovation, accountability and operational transparency, you will guide cross-functional teams in deploying technology-enabled training solutions that enhance employee capability, reduce risk and foster a culture of continuous improvement. Specific duties include:
- Facilitate the integration of the Curriculum Design Team and Learning Technology & Innovation Team into one cohesive unit.
- Hire, supervise and mentor staff and contractors in the Learning Development unit.
- Lead the team through performance reviews and address any performance issues.
- Collaborate with key partners across departments to align training programs with service-wide priorities.
- Oversee and manage the planning, development and quality review of instructional programs for the Calgary Police Service (CPS).
- Participate in internal and external committees to assess current practices and suggest improvements.
- Evaluate instructional programs, curricula and materials to guide future development.
- Ensure smooth integration and compliance with cloud-based learning systems.
- Manage the Unit's budget and software and hardware purchases.
- Handle copyright agreements and outsourcing contracts.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to develop effective adult learning strategies and programs.
Qualifications
- A degree in Management, Education or a related field with a focus on Leadership, Curriculum and/or Instructional Design or Organizational Change Management courses.
- A minimum of 4 years of relevant leadership experience in leading units with multi-functions, change management, education or related experience.
- Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.

- An enhanced security clearance will be conducted.
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials.

Compensation: Level M2 $130,400 - 163,000 per annum
Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day
work week with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle.
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
