About the role
Who you are
- This role is ideal for a player-coach who thrives in fast-paced, high-growth environments, brings strong FP&A and operational finance chops, and is energized by the opportunity to shape the future of a mission-driven business
- You’re excited by the opportunity to make a direct and lasting impact on a company that’s reshaping education for millions of students
- 15+ years of progressive finance experience, with a strong foundation in FP&A and strategic finance
- Proven success in high-growth, VC-backed companies (ideally Series A–C), including 5+ years in a leadership role
- A hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves leader who thrives in earlier-stage environments and embraces both strategy and execution
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and build a highly engaged, high-performing finance team
- Proven ability to partner cross-functionally and influence strategic decisions across departments
- Adept at communicating complex financial concepts clearly to executives, board members, and cross-functional teams
- Strong modeling and analytical skills; fluent in Excel/Google Sheets and modern FP&A tools
- Passionate about impact—and excited by the opportunity to support millions of students through better educational outcomes
- Background in investment banking, SaaS, or marketplace business models
- Experience working directly with boards and supporting capital raises or investor relations
- Experience supporting multiple entities with employees in the U.S. and Canada
- Experience working in remote, distributed organizations across multiple time zones
What the job involves
- We’re looking for a strategic, hands-on Vice President of Finance to join our executive team and help lead Paper through its next chapter of growth
- You’ll work closely with the CEO, leadership team, and board to steer the company’s financial strategy, optimize performance, and ensure we have the systems, insights, and discipline to scale with excellence
- You’ll lead a lean, high-leverage team while staying close to the numbers yourself
- And you’ll be joining at a pivotal moment as we innovate with AI to deliver more personalized, scalable student support
- This role reports to the CEO
- You'll own and evolve our financial model, budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning to support sound strategic decisions, drive clarity, and align company priorities with financial goals
- Provide financial leadership across the company, partnering cross-functionally with operating teams and leaders to enable strategic initiatives, evaluate ROI, and unlock efficient growth
- Prepare clear, insight-driven materials for board meetings, investor updates, and fundraising processes, owning financial storytelling and data
- Track key business and financial metrics; identify trends that drive business performance and highlight opportunities and risks
- Oversee all core finance functions and operations, including FP&A, corporate development, accounting, cash flow management, and the overall financial health of the business
- Lead the resourcing and budgeting process and long-range financial planning to support efficient growth
- Ensure timely, accurate financial reporting and compliance across the U.S. and Canada
- Strengthen infrastructure—refining systems, tools, and workflows to enable scale, speed, and visibility
- Lead and develop a lean but high-leverage, high-performing team
