The Opportunity JOB DESCRIPTION Make your mark while you grow your career! As a Thermal Production Engineer, or EIT, you will have the opportunity to make your mark at Canadian Natural while gaining invaluable experience as our SAGD, steam flood, and CSS depletion methods create exciting opportunities for professional growth and development.
You will be a key player in a dynamic and collaborative team of professionals focused on optimizing our thermal production. Working with a multi-disciplinary team of Geoscientists, Production Engineers, field staff and other company professionals, you will learn to use proven subsurface engineering methods and field operations in an environment that encourages innovative ideas to be tried and tested. The thermal business area competes strongly for development, re-development and strategic workovers and is set to remain a high impact, high activity area for the organization.

Key Accountabilities
- Work directly with operations to execute depletion strategies to maximize the value of the asset
- Daily surveillance and troubleshooting of operating Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD), Steam Flood (SF) and/or Cyclic Steam Stimulation (CSS) wells to ensure safe, reliable, compliant and cost effective operations
- Identify and propose opportunities to optimize production and reduce operating costs
- Develop, maintain, and monitor well and formation integrity programs
- Evaluate, recommend, plan and execute on well work overs
- Participate in the planning of new development phases, with the opportunity for career progression into a Production Development role
What You Bring To The Role
-
Bachelor of Science in Chemical, Mechanical, Energy or Petroleum Engineering preferred
-
3 to 7 years of engineering experience; with APEGA registration as a P.Eng. or EIT (junior or intermediate petroleum industry experience is an asset)

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and enthusiastic about data analytics & visualization; any experience with software, such as Excel VBA, Tableau, Power BI, Python, is beneficial

Knowledge of related disciplines would be an asset:
-
Drilling, completions and facilities engineering
-
Artificial lift systems (e.g. rod pumps, gas lift and ESP systems)
-
Subsurface wellbore design
-
Thermodynamics and fluid dynamics
-
A team player who enjoys problem solving, and driven and eager to learn, with excellent communication and organization skills
-
Class 5 driver’s license or equivalent
