Student Fitness Centre Supervisors (Up to 4 positions) - Department of Athletics and Recreation

About the role

The Department of Athletics and Recreation is seeking motivated, professional student staff to join their Fitness Centre team. The Student Fitness Centre Supervisor plays a key role in the fitness centre, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and well-managed environment for all members. Member safety, supervision, and customer service are top priorities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise all activities within the Fitness Centre to ensure a safe and respectful environment
  • Educate members on proper equipment use and correct exercise techniques
  • Monitor facility access, ensuring only members with active memberships are permitted
  • Conduct routine inspections of fitness equipment and report damage or safety concerns
  • Enforce facility policies, rules, and weight room etiquette
  • Respond appropriately to injuries or emergency situations by following established emergency procedures
  • Provide accurate information regarding hours of operation, programs, and policies
  • Address and report incidents involving unsafe or inappropriate behaviour
  • Clean and sanitize fitness equipment daily
  • Attend mandatory orientations, training sessions, and staff meetings
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Fitness and Wellness Coordinator

Note: This position requires standing for extended periods and involves physical labour. (lifting bars, plates, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a current UPEI student
  • Preference given to students enrolled in the UPEI Kinesiology program (not mandatory)
  • Strong working knowledge of fitness centre equipment
  • Basic understanding of health, fitness, and exercise principles
  • Professional demeanor: reliable, respectful, well-prepared, and approachable
  • Excellent customer service skills with a positive, energetic attitude
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Attention to detail and strong interpersonal skills
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Current CPR/AED and WHMIS certification, or willingness to obtain certification at personal expense
