About the role
At SMS Equipment, the Payroll Technician will be responsible for all activities as they relate to the Company’s payroll for the East Region. This position is located in Acheson. This is an hybride position.

Your role :
- Process all payroll related changes.
- Calculate payroll liabilities; employee federal and provincial income taxes, employment insurance, pension plan and worker’s compensation deductions, tax deductions.
- Extract and verify accuracy of the payroll data from the UltiPro time and attendance program.
- Extract and verify accuracy of the payroll data from the ERP system.
- Process all applicable garnishments, retirement contributions and records of employment.
- Processes payroll journal entries.
- Work closely with the payroll team and the humain ressources team
- Answer questions from employees and managers.
- Administer, interprets and remain current on all diverse payroll and regulations, collective agreements and governing legislation laws.
- Ensure appropriate records are maintained to support the Payroll and HR department.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years' experience accompanied with a solid working knowledge of payroll and benefits processes, regulations, legislation and collective agreements.
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner certification is an asset.
- Achievement or working towards the Payroll Management designation with the Canadian Payroll Association is an asset.
Other requirements are as follows:
- Must be bilingual (French and English);
- Knowledge of UKG system is an asset.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, v-lookups, complex calculations, quick formatting and short cuts).
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with a focus on providing good service to internal and external customers.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to problem solve and find solutions.
