Primary Duties

The Supervisor, Finance is responsible for overseeing financial accounting, reporting and compliance activities ensuring accuracy, timeliness and adherence to financial and regulatory requirements. They will provide financial guidance to stakeholders and ensure the effective supervision of team members and key financial processes.

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Manage the G/L, oversee financial transactions including journal entries, intercompany charges, and reconciliations.

  2. Prepare regulatory filings, submissions and ensure compliance acting as an expert resource for regulatory accounting matters.

  3. Maintain accurate financial records and oversee financial and regulatory reporting.

  4. Lead month end, quarter end and year end financial closing activities ensuring accurate and timely reporting.

  5. Assist with external auditors as required, ensuring they have the necessary information and documentation to complete audits efficiently and accurately.

  6. Collaborate with management to provide financial guidance to executives, operational teams and corporate leadership.

  7. Support and collaborate with various business units to prepare financial forecasts and annual budgets.

  8. Assist with and review the revenue and expense analysis for each utility.

  9. Prepare various reports and analyses and provide guidance for the completion of daily accounting activities.

  10. Prepare financial information and reports for internal stakeholders, Board reporting, banks and regulatory bodies.

  11. Effectively manage team resources to provide reliable service and accurate financial information to various internal and external stakeholders.

  12. Oversee and ensure timely, accurate processing of accounts payable transactions.

  13. Supervise and review the contracted services process to ensure compliance with agreements and alignment with organizational standards.

  14. Complete Statistics Canada reporting as required.

Education, Certification and Other Qualifications Required

  1. Intermediate proficiency with MS Office

  2. Working knowledge of MS Dynamics 365 or other financial business systems

  3. Advanced communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with financial and non-financial stakeholders

  4. Advanced interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written

  5. Advanced organizational skills and strong detail orientation

  6. Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills

Knowledge:

  1. Basic knowledge and understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants’ Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAB) and/or Regulatory Accounting and Ontario Energy Board Accounting Procedures

  2. Intermediate knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements as it relates to individuals, the organization and operational requirements

Qualifications:

  1. Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline

  2. CPA designation

  3. Minimum 4 years’ experience in financial analysis, planning and management level experience in financial reporting and cost accounting

  4. Familiarity with IFRS is an asset

  5. Hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365

  6. Strong analytical thinking, problem solving and leadership abilities
