Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for the permanent full-time position of Fleet Tradesperson - Welder. The position will perform welding and fabrication on HRM owned heavy equipment, trucks, snowplows, etc., Must be self-motivated, dependable and be able to work well with others in a team environment. This position requires teamwork, flexibility, organizational skills and safety awareness. Must also contribute to meeting the operational objectives of the business unit and HRM

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Welding in the flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions
- Receive and complete work orders and assigned tasks through use of a computerized work order fleet management system.
- Weld and/or cut with oxygen/acetylene
- Take measurements, lay out work and calculate material requirements
- Reading and interpreting of blue prints or plans pertaining to burning, fitting and welding
- Various welding cutting and fitting repairs or construction to HRM equipment vehicles and plow attachments
- Ability to design, fabricate and fit metal work
- Maintains accurate records of work performed
- Familiar with proper shop practices related to a welding shop
- Ensures work completed meets specifications
- Familiar with Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and their application
- Participate with supporting the apprenticeship program as a journeyperson
- Performs other related duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- Completion of Grade 12, or equivalent
- Must possess a valid NS drivers license with a good driving record
- Must possess a valid Red Seal certificate in welding
- Experience in a heavy equipment shop and/or fabrication shop
Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:
- Must have a reasonable knowledge of Fleet Equipment
- Must have full understanding of preventative maintenance, as it pertains to municipal equipment
- Familiarity with computers and a computerized work order system
- Must be able to work with minimum supervision, in a team environment
- Must have good attendance, as well as be reliable and punctual.
Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.
Please note – Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge. Candidates, who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer’s discretion.
Candidates must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position and have valid licensing, as required.

HOURS OF WORK: 40 hour per week - Monday to Friday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
SALARY: $41.52 per hour according to the Collective Agreement between CUPE Local 108 and Halifax Regional Municipality.
WORK LOCATION: 150 Thornhill Drive, Dartmouth
