Position Purpose Summary:
The Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign is part of a century old tradition to contribute towards building strong communities by helping TSA to give hope to others.
Kettle Coordinator position is a short-term contract position. The successful candidate is responsible for oversight of several Christmas Kettle locations in a given geographical zone area. Zone locations include shopping malls, grocery stores and retail outlets.
Accountabilities:
Incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties as below:
- Attend a day of training/orientation on The Salvation Army and the Christmas Kettle Campaign.
- Provide support in getting Kettles to zone locations prior to volunteer arrival at Campaign onset.
- Ensure all Kettle donations are delivered to secure location at shift completion.
- Communicate daily issues and supply deficiencies to City/Assistant Coordinator.
- Orient and remind volunteers on proper Kettle handling and duties as required.
- Supervise, support and assign (as required) Kettle Volunteers throughout the Campaign.
- Participate in the recruitment of new volunteers.
- Visit locations during shift changes and intermittently.
- Ensure timesheets and mileage reports are submitted accurately and timely (weekly basis).
- Remain at the Kettle for the full shift (until relieved), ensuring security of donations received.
- Respond to questions/queries from potential donors regarding SA ministries and programs.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
Governance Boards and Councils: n/a
Internal: TSA staff members, Kettle campaign team
External: Community members
MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY:
- Reports directly to CFS Manager.
- Direct reports: n/a. Workflow coordinator for Kettle Workers.
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
- Collect donations and petty cash and ensure donations are always kept secure.
Working Conditions:
- Work environment is typically in malls/stores
- Standing for long periods will be required and exposure to cold weather
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Some high school coursework, completion of high school is an asset.
Experience:
- A minimum of one year of related experience or working in customer service.
- Money handling experience is an asset.
- Related experience is an asset.
Skills/Capabilities
- Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Ability to provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required, including Child Check (if appropriate).
- A Driver’s Abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
- Valid driver’s licence and a reliable vehicle required.
- Enthusiastic Team Player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Able to lift 9 to 12 kgs (20 – 25 lbs).
- Strong customer service skills; enjoy liaising and working with people of all ages and abilities.
- Willingness to be flexible and work well under pressure with daily timelines and changing priorities.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in the handling of donor, volunteer, and organizational information.
This is a temporary fixed term position at 25 hours per week. Rate of pay is $20.00 per hour. Contract runs November 1 - December 24, 2025.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $17.33 to $21.66 with a maximum of $25.99.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
