Day In the Life The Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating customer orders, scheduling deliveries, and managing communication between drivers, plant personnel, and suppliers to ensure efficient and timely concrete delivery. It will involve plant supervision and both managing and leading, all day-to-day drivers’ routine assignments. This role is critical for maintaining high service standards, optimizing fleet utilization, and supporting operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Receive and process customer orders accurately, confirming product specifications, delivery times, and locations.
- Adjust schedules based on changing priorities, weather conditions, and customer requirements.
- Assign and dispatch trucks to meet delivery schedules while optimizing routes and minimizing delays.
- Monitor truck locations and status using GPS or dispatch software; communicate updates to customers and drivers.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customers regarding delivery status, changes, and inquiries.
- Coordinate with plant operators, drivers, and suppliers to resolve issues promptly.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards during delivery operations.
- Track and report on delivery performance metrics (e.g., on-time delivery, utilization rates).
- Maintain accurate records of orders, delivery tickets, and driver logs.
- Prepare daily dispatch reports and communicate operational updates to management.
Qualifications
- 2–4 years of experience in dispatching, logistics, or transportation coordination (preferably in concrete or construction industry).
- Experience with GPS tracking and dispatch systems.
- Proven ability to manage high-volume scheduling and customer interactions.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Post-secondary education in logistics, business administration, or related field preferred.
- Transportation or logistics certifications (e.g., Dispatcher Certification, DOT compliance training).
- Safety training certifications (e.g., WHMIS, First Aid) an asset.
- Valid DZ/AZ Driver’s license but not a requirement
- Clean CVOR and Driver’s Abstract
- Ability to manage multiple schedules and priorities under time pressure.
- Quick decision-making to resolve delivery conflicts and operational challenges.
- Clear and professional interaction with customers, drivers, and internal teams.
- Ability to motivate and manage a team in a high-volume environment.
- Accurate documentation and compliance monitoring.
- Responds effectively to changing conditions and urgent requests.
- Understanding of Concrete operations, batching, and delivery processes an asset
- Knowledge of transportation regulations, DOT compliance, and safety standards.
- Proficiency in dispatch software, GPS tracking systems, and MS Office tools.
- Ability to interpret delivery schedules, load requirements, and jobsite specifications.
- Basic knowledge of fleet maintenance and vehicle capacity
Compensation Data Hourly Rate Range, $30-32/hr
