Overview

Thompson Dorfman Sweatman LLP is currently seeking a Manager of Human Resources for a 16-18 Month term. The Manager of Human Resources functions as a strategic and operational HR leader who partners with management on employee relations issues, talent development and succession planning, full-cycle recruitment, retention and engagement initiatives, and organizational development programs. In addition, this role serves as a trusted resource for employees on a wide range of HR matters, including payroll, benefits, disability claims, and general workplace inquiries.

You’ll partner closely with department managers to address employee relations, succession planning, and organizational development, while also serving as a trusted point of contact for staff on HR-related questions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the Human Resources department, including budgeting, strategic planning, and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Develop and manage recruitment strategies, including full-cycle hiring, onboarding, and offboarding for staff.
  • Oversee performance management processes, coaching leaders on employee relations and supporting talent development.
  • Maintain and update HR policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with legislation and alignment with best practices.
  • Support employee engagement initiatives, recognition programs, and workplace culture development.
  • Communicate regularly with management to address HR issues, provide guidance, and promote collaboration.
  • Oversee time allocation and usage tracking (vacations, reduced workweek, banked time, etc.).
  • Maintain accurate personnel files and employee records in HRIS systems.
  • Manage Administration of payroll and benefits programs, including acting as backup for payroll processing.
  • Create and manage HR reports, dashboards, and data accuracy audits.
  • Perform other duties and projects as required based on business needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary training in business, human resources, psychology, or a related discipline. CPHR or CPHR Candidate designation is preferred.
  • Sufficient employee-facing business partnering experience.
  • Experience administering payroll and benefits is preferred.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with experience in a professional service organization and/or a matrix structure.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel).
  • Strong administration and research skills.
  • Familiar with various HR related legislation and can apply in daily work.
  • Experience with Dayforce is considered an asset.
