The salary range for this position is:

  • Recruitment range: $69,052 - $76,129 starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.
  • Performance range: $89,791 salary range ceiling is available through annual performance increases.

Job Summary

Mandate:
The Undergraduate Admissions and Student Advisor in the School of Health Information Science plays a central role in supporting undergraduate students throughout the academic cycle. The position contributes to the university's strategic goals by fostering student success and retention through responsive advising, academic guidance, and administrative coordination. It also enhances program delivery through leadership in admissions, progression planning, and policy implementation within a growing, interdisciplinary health technology environment.

Objectives:

  • Deliver accurate and proactive academic advising and admissions support to current and prospective BSc students.
  • Strengthen student engagement, retention, and academic success through relationship-building and informed guidance.
  • Coordinate the undergraduate awards process and advise on academic planning to align with faculty and institutional priorities.
  • Lead and implement admissions procedures, curriculum updates, and academic policy changes.
  • Participate in the enhancement of student-facing services and initiatives through committee work and cross-campus collaboration.

Working conditions may include occasional travel and evening or weekend work to represent the School at recruitment or promotional events.

Job Requirements

This position requires a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of three years of related experience in a post-secondary or professional program environment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

  • Strong knowledge of post-secondary advising, admissions processes, and academic regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting students in confidential and complex academic situations.
  • Experience using student information systems (e.g., Banner, FAST, CAPP); familiarity with transfer credit tools.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders including faculty, staff, and partner units.
  • Commitment to anti-oppressive, equity-informed, and decolonizing approaches to advising and administration.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and planning abilities to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous initiatives, accessibility practices, and inclusive student services at UVic is an asset.

Assets:

  • Knowledge of UVic systems including FAST, Banner, CAPP, and University policy frameworks.
  • Experience working in health sciences, interdisciplinary academic programs, or technical/professional fields.
