The successful candidate will lead the mechanical design of HVAC systems, water, storm, and sanitary pump stations as well as valve chambers, and pressure control facilities. Our team also undertakes energy efficiency studies and condition assessments of existing infrastructure, and the design of upgrades to these facilities. While this role is intended to be primarily technical, there is an opportunity to support the team’s business development, project and construction management activities.

What we offer:

  • Competitive salary and benefits, including a fitness allowance, company-matching pension program, and a parental leave top-up program.
  • Ongoing support for your growth and development, including a formal professional development program, mentorship programs, training opportunities, and professional designation support.
  • Culture that promotes sustainability, accessibility, respect, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Flexible work hours to allow staff to have a work – life balance.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating the work of multidisciplined teams through the design development phase.
  • Managing our cross-discipline quality management process.
  • Taking ownership of overall project quality.
  • Leading the design of mechanical systems, including: hydraulic analysis of piping and pumping systems, selection of equipment (valves, piping, pumps, tanks, screens, etc.), and design calculations.
  • Leading the preparation of schematic drawings, layouts, and P&IDs with senior support and working with our CAD technicians.
  • Helping to prepare and author studies and design reports, cost estimates, specifications and contract documents.
  • Undertaking Engineer of Record field review of projects in construction.

Job Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or integrated engineering from an accredited post-secondary institution.

  • Committed team player and highly self-motivated.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and to undertake self-directed learning.
  • Enthusiasm for building internal relationships throughout Associated Engineering’s network of engineering professionals.
  • Passion for HVAC, hydraulics, pumping and piping systems, and understand the importance of sustainability in design and energy efficiency resulting from system optimization.
  • Ability to look beyond your mechanical engineering specialty to find synergies with other disciplines to understand cross-disciplinary needs for a successful project completion.
  • Proficient with MS Office, as well as pdf editing software.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and 3D design tools such as SketchUp, Revit and Plant 3D.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic design tools would also be an asset.
