Your Opportunity:

Based at Rockyview General Hospital (RGH), the Unit Manager is accountable for the leadership and operational management of a 22 bed multidisciplinary Acute Geriatric Inpatient Mental Health Unit, the Geriatric Mental Health Outreach Team, and the Mental Health Day Treatment Program. Reporting to the Program Manager of Addiction and Mental Health Services at RGH, the Unit Manager provides daily leadership, guidance, and decision-making support to ensure the delivery of high quality, patient centered care. This role upholds Recovery Alberta (RA) policies, procedures, objectives, and strategic priorities. The Unit Manager fosters an environment that promotes clinical excellence, collaborative practice, and continuous improvement while ensuring safe, effective services for patients, families, and staff.

Description:

The Unit Manager, based at Rockyview General Hospital (RGH), holds operational responsibility for a 22 bed multidisciplinary Acute Geriatric Inpatient Mental Health Unit, the Geriatric Mental Health Outreach Team, and the Mental Health Day Treatment Program. Reporting to the Program Manager of Addiction and Mental Health Services, the Unit Manager provides daily leadership and makes informed, effective decisions that support high quality patient care. In addition, the Unit Manager is responsible for leading recruitment efforts for the unit, including identifying staffing needs, participating in interview processes, and supporting hiring decisions that ensure the team is equipped with skilled, qualified professionals. This role also collaborates with Human Resources and program leadership to support workforce planning and maintain adequate staffing levels. Key accountabilities include promoting excellence in clinical practice, optimizing patient flow, supporting staff performance, and ensuring alignment with Recovery Alberta (RA) policies, procedures, objectives, and priorities. The Unit Manager plays a critical role in strengthening team engagement, advancing program goals, and supporting a culture of safety and recovery oriented care.

Required Qualifications:

  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing required. - Current CRNA/CRPNA registration required. - Minimum of five years of acute inpatient mental health experience required. - Demonstrated skills in analytical thinking, organization, planning, teaching, decision making, and financial management. - Proven leadership or clinical supervision experience with healthcare professionals. - Ability to perform effectively in fast paced and dynamic environments. - Strong conflict resolution abilities and demonstrated capacity as a change agent. - Excellent oral and written communication skills. - Comprehensive understanding of the Addiction and Mental Health continuum of care. - Knowledge of evidence based psychosocial interventions, including group therapy. - Familiarity with community resources related to Addiction and Mental Health. - Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet timelines in evolving environments.

Additional Required Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to plan and manage both short and long term initiatives. - Capacity to foster effective partnerships and negotiate change with creativity, diplomacy, and innovation. - Ability to lead a complex multidisciplinary department with diverse goals and initiatives. - Competence in managing human, financial, and physical resources within a unionized environment. - Understanding of system wide interdependencies across the health care system, the Addiction and Mental Health portfolio, and stakeholder partners.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with staff scheduling systems, including WFM. - Experience in a leadership role - Knowledge and experience with Connect Care. - Commitment to continuing professional development. - Experience in Community Mental Health.
