The Clinical Care Program is currently seeking a full-time, permanent Program Assistant to work on the Crisis Critical Care Unit 4. This is an exciting and unique professional opportunity! You will help contribute to development of programming and clinical processes.
The model of care on the unit will emphasize treatment of concurrent disorders and patient engagement in therapeutic programming and you will have opportunities for capacity building and skill development.

As a member of an inter-professional team, you will:

  • work with clients from diverse backgrounds experiencing a variety of mental health issues and addiction;
  • contribute to the safety, organization and optimal function of the inpatient unit and promote maintenance of the therapeutic milieu, under the direction of the clinical staff;
  • contribute to and participate in the assessment of designated clients and provide direct client care;
  • accompany clients off site for medical clearance and for any other transfers/appointments as deemed necessary;
  • communicate both verbally and in writing behavioural observations, assessments and client’s responses to care interventions;
  • assume an active role in maintaining both dynamic and static security elements of the unit; and
  • support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable and regulatory requirements.
    We are looking for a passionate program assistant, who:
  • has demonstrated effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in an interprofessional team environment;
  • is reliable, co-operative and client-focused as well as a motivated team player who shows initiative.
  • has experience working with clients from diverse ethno racial and cultural backgrounds, teams and stakeholders;
  • has demonstrated high levels of sensitivity and diplomacy; and possesses effective organizational, problem-solving and communication skills.

You will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. This position involves shift rotation and weekend work. The position is located at the Queen Street Site and is twelve (12) hour shifts.

Job Requirements

The successful candidate will have a Secondary School diploma or equivalent and preference will be given to candidates that have 1 year experience in a health care related field. The successful candidate will possess a Personal Care Worker Certificate or possess or be in the process of pursuing a certificate/diploma/degree in a health care discipline. CPR is considered as an asset. Ability to work with diverse clients and staff is required. Familiarity with clinical care and issues specific to mental health and or addictions settings is preferred. Familiarity with clinical care and issues specific to mental health and or addictions settings is preferred. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language is considered an asset.
