Position Title: Maintenance Assistant
Location: Langara Family YMCA (282 W 49th Ave, Vancouver)
Terms: Permanent Full-Time
Hours: 35 hours per week
Shift: Shifts vary but will include weekdays, evenings and weekends
Salary: $42,000-$45,500 per year plus full benefits package
Start Date: As soon as possible
Reports To: Manager, Building Operations
Nature & Scope
The Maintenance Assistant ensures facilities, equipment, and systems are safe, clean, and functioning properly through routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs. They work closely with contractors, suppliers, and staff to uphold high building standards, extend asset life, and maintain compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
Major Responsibilities**-** in this position, you will**:**
- Perform Routine Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections and carry out scheduled preventive maintenance on building systems (e.g., electrical, plumbing, HVAC, lighting)
- Respond to Repair Requests: Address maintenance and repair issues promptly to minimize disruptions to operations or occupant comfort
- Maintain Equipment and Tools: Ensure all maintenance tools and equipment are in good working condition and used safely and properly
- Ensure Health & Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and building codes; report hazards or violations and take corrective action as needed
- Maintain Records and Documentation: Keep accurate records of repairs, maintenance schedules, and inspections
- Assist with Facility Upkeep: Perform general upkeep tasks such as painting, basic carpentry, changing light fixtures, and replacing filters
Qualifications**-you bring:**
- Trade certification or 3-5 years of building maintenance experience
- Standard First Aid with CPR-C (valid within 3 years)
- Knowledge on how to use excel and Microsoft word
- Current satisfactory Criminal Record Check and provide 3 professional references
