##Day In the Life

With instructions from the Patrol Supervisor, the General Labourers will work together to perform repairs and maintain the highway infrastructure, so it meets the performance requirements of the Ministry Directed Contract.

##Responsibilities

  • Promote, lead, and execute a Safety-First culture for all employees, sub-contractors, and consultants in compliance with Miller Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) polices and ensure contractual HSE obligation for the staff and public are met
  • Perform snow removal on bridges, sidewalks, hwy. signs and patrol yards.
  • Traffic control as per book 7
  • Set up/man emergency road closures as instructed by MTO
  • Perform repairs to the highway, including but not limited to, debris removal, pothole repairs, installing small signs and temp guide rail cable stands when req’d.
  • Conduct daily circle checks of equipment before operating
  • Clean and maintain equipment and perform minor repairs
  • Perform housekeeping duties to ensure the shop, common areas, and exterior of the yard are clean and safe
  • Maintain accurate documentation of hours of service, fuel records, time sheets, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned

##Qualifications

  • Class G driver’s license required
  • Mechanical knowledge and experience with general equipment maintenance and operation of small tools and heavy equipment considered an asset
  • 1+ years’ experience in positions including landscaping, labourer etc. are strong assets
  • Willingness to learn and appreciate Miller values - safety, quality, and integrity so we can continue “Building Greatness”
  • Excellent team player to work productively in a highly functional team
  • Flexibility and organizational skills to multitask and manage time in a fast-paced environment with rapidly shifting priorities
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Effective communication (both written and verbal) to accurately document daily activities
  • Willingness to remain on-call occasionally and work assigned day, night, and weekend shifts
  • Ability to perform manual labour and lift up to 25 kilograms

##Compensation Data

Targeting $21.50 - $23.50/hr
