About the role

Your Opportunity:

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Intensive Care team. With limited supervision, the Unit Clerk provides support to the operations of the Intensive Care Unit as required by greeting family members / visitors / staff, answering phones, processing patient visits and orders, and performing other clerical and reception duties. Responsibilities: Greeting families / visitors and staff on entry to the unit. Answering telephones, receiving results and relaying messages to the appropriate personnel. Liaises with admitting and other nursing units regarding patient admissions and transfers. Recognizes and prioritizes ‘stat’ orders, and calls / pages the appropriate persons involved in such situations (i.e. Physician, Respiratory Therapy). Contacts other departments to facilitate the timely booking of diagnostic tests. Maintenance of patient chart management and order. Monitors and maintains necessary stationary supplies for the unit. Requisitions services from other hospital departments (i.e. Portering, Housekeeping, Maintenance).

Description:

As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Health care program certificate program / diploma (i.e. Unit Clerk). Experience with Clinibase, SCM and e-Critical. Minimum 1-3 years Unit Clerk experience in a hospital setting. Good working knowledge of medical terminology. Must have excellent interpersonal skills. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications:

Current Critical Care Experience. Computer skills / experience (required) with a working knowledge Microsoft Office applications. Computer or business related course. Customer service related course.
