ʔaq̓am is a member Community of the Ktunaxa Nation (pronounced ‘k-too-nah-ha’). ʔaq̓am Organization exists for the Community. Externally, we are here to serve the Community, and internally, we are our own Community, comprised of different departments unified by our Vision, Mission, and Values. As a team, through our own roles and departments, the ʔaq̓am Organization works together to achieve our strategic plan – “ka kniⱡwityaⱡa ~ Our Thinking”, and continue to progress and move our Community forward.
ʔaq̓am is located in the beautiful, sunny centre of Ktunaxa Traditional Territory in the southeast corner of British Columbia. About the Opportunity
The Communication and Media Coordinator develops and implements communication strategies for the organization, overseeing both internal and external communications. They are responsible for creating and managing communication materials, building relationships with media, and ensuring consistent messaging across various platforms and evaluating the effectiveness of communication efforts. Their role will involve coordinating with all departments to create communication methods and materials and working with the Chief Administrative Officer and Chief and Council to ensure appropriate and timely communication to membership and the external.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
General
- Content Creation and Management: Writing, editing, and managing various communication materials, including press releases, newsletters, website content, and social media posts.
- Public Relations and Media Relations: Building and maintaining relationships with journalists and media outlets, securing media coverage, and managing public perception.
- Internal Communications: Ensuring clear and consistent communication within the organization, fostering employee engagement and a positive work environment. Ensuring clear and consistent communication to band members and supporting all departments in community engagement efforts.
- Performance Measurement and Analysis: Tracking key performance indicators and analyzing the effectiveness of communication campaigns.
More About You
T****RAINING, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, strategic communications, public policy or equivalent
- Three years of related experience
- Digital Marketing and Social Media experience
- Project Management experience
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and web content management systems experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong, written and verbal communication skills
- Good organizational, planning, and coordination skills
- Strategic thinking and planning skills
- Knowledge of the media landscape and public relations best practices
- Ability to multi-task and re-prioritize as needed
- Desire to take full ownership of assigned projects and can work independently
- Is self-motivated and detail-minded
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build collaborative relationships
- Good verbal presentation, group dynamic, and facilitation skills
- Proactive approach in resolving problems and issues
- Experience working with Indigenous communities
Position will require proof of a clear criminal record including vulnerable sector check, provision of a clean driver's abstract and a Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
Salary will commensurate with experience from a range of $58,871 - $84,735 and includes a favorable benefits package and pension plan.
Preference will be given to candidates of Ktunaxa or other Indigenous ancestry and ʔaq̓am encourages applicants to self-identify within your application.
