Job Description
WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?
The Capital Markets Commodities trading team is one of the fastest-growing business groups within RBC. We trade across Oil & Gas, Power, Emissions, Agriculture, Commodities Index, Base Metals, and Precious Metals—spanning financial and physical deliveries with linear and non-linear instruments. Operating from Toronto, Calgary, New York, and the UK, we're seeking a Business Analyst to join our Commodities team and help enhance the systems and processes that support this dynamic business.
The Commodities team manages front-to-back trading applications and infrastructure for the commodities business. In this role, you'll partner with IT (QTS) and business stakeholders to gather requirements, analyze business processes, and translate them into system improvements and technology solutions that drive operational efficiency and support business growth.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
You'll work with business stakeholders and technical teams to understand trading workflows, identify system gaps, and document requirements for enhancements. You'll analyze current Commodities configurations and trading processes to recommend optimizations and support the design of solutions that improve trader productivity and risk management. You'll conduct impact assessments for system changes, validate that implementations meet business needs, and support testing and user acceptance activities. You'll also document processes, create training materials for end-users and support teams, and maintain clear communication with management on project status and risks.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?
Must have:
- Degree in Business, Finance, or Computer Science, and 5+ years business analyst experience
- Strong foundational knowledge of Openlink platform configuration.
- Advanced understanding of commodities trading workflows, including pre-trade, execution, post-trade settlement, and regulatory reporting.
- Knowledge of financial reference data concepts: clients, books, securities, and positions.
- Proficiency in SQL and data analysis to investigate system behavior and validate data integrity.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to translate between business and technical stakeholders.
- Experience gathering requirements, documenting specifications, and managing stakeholder expectations.
- Familiarity with development methodologies (Waterfall, Agile) and change management processes.
Nice-to-have:
- Background in Java, Python, or C# to understand technical constraints and collaborate effectively with developers.
What is in it for you?
We thrive on the challenge to be our best - progressive thinking to keep growing and working together to deliver trusted advice to help our clients thrive and communities prosper. - A comprehensive Total Rewards Program including bonuses, flexible benefits and competitive compensation
- Leaders who support your development through coaching and managing opportunities
- Opportunities to work with the best in the field
- Ability to make a difference and lasting impact
- Work in a dynamic, collaborative, progressive, and high-performing team
- A world-class training program in financial services
- Flexible working options fully supported.
