About the role
We are seeking a friendly, professional, and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a receptionist. In this role, you will be the first point of contact for residents, visitors, and staff, ensuring a warm and welcoming environment. Key responsibilities include answering and directing incoming phone calls, taking messages as needed, and greeting individuals as they enter and exit the facility. You will also provide assistance with parking inquiries and issue complimentary parking passes when applicable. Additionally, you will be responsible for handling financial transactions, including the sale of meal tickets and other items. In emergency situations, you will initiate status announcements using the overhead paging system and make general announcements for meetings, daily prayers, birthdays, and other events. You will maintain the schedule for site tours and assist prospective residents and their families with inquiries. As part of your role, you will collect required documentation for visiting pets and issue pet ID tags in accordance with facility policy. It will also be your responsibility to ensure that the front entrance, foyer, reception desk, and administrative areas are always clean and organized. Required Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Demonstrated customer service experience in a receptionist, administrative, or front-line role. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Demonstrated ability to interact in a courteous, respectful, and compassionate manner with residents, families, visitors, and staff. Proficiency with basic computer applications, including email and Microsoft Office. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Demonstrated proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English is required. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Availability to work casual hours, including days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Demonstrated ability to learn and operate site-specific systems (e.g., switchboard, overhead paging, scheduling systems). Physical ability to perform routine and repetitive tasks on a consistent basis, including prolonged sitting and standing, repetitive wrist and shoulder movements, and maintaining reception area organization. Ability to work in an environment with varying temperatures.
Preferred Qualifications:
Recent receptionist experience with switchboard or multi-line phone systems preferred. Experience working or volunteering in a long-term care setting or healthcare environment is considered an asset.
