The Recreation department of the Community Engagement and Cultural Services division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Lifeguard/Swim Instructor at Meadow Park Sports Centre. Reporting to the Aquatics Recreation Programmer, this part-time position offers a schedule of 40 hours bi-weekly during the sport centre operational hours of 6am to 9pm, including evenings and weekends.
The Lifeguard/Swim Instructor’s main responsibilities include safety supervision of the pool area; swimming instruction for all ages; administration of first aid for the sports centre; completion of basic maintenance tasks in the pool area; and the delivery of positive sports centre guest service. Lifeguard/Swim Instructors will also assist with opening and closing of the pool facilities.
Qualified candidates are fully certified and qualified Lifeguard/Swim Instructors with current NL (pool), Swim For Life Swim Instructor, First Aid, and CPR-C certifications. AMOA, BLS, NLI, Swim Trainer and LSIT qualifications are considered an asset. For more information visit www.lifesaving.bc.ca and www.redcross.ca. Candidates must have some knowledge of aquatic-related policy and procedures, water safety and first aid, and demonstrate skills in communication for effective instruction, lifeguarding and judgment for quick decision-making. The successful candidate is customer service focused with a professional, approachable and helpful demeanor and demonstrates the ability to multitask in a fast-paced working environment and commitment to promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace while contributing to a positive team environment. The starting wage for this position is $27.57 an hour.
As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must provide a satisfactory Police Information Check prior to beginning employment.
