Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is a 315-bed academic and teaching hospital that provides specialized mental health, addiction and geriatric care. Located on the shores of Georgian Bay, we serve some of the most complex and disadvantaged individuals in Ontario and are the sole provider of high-secure forensic mental health services in the province.

The Manager of Rehabilitation Services is currently seeking a casual Registered Dietitian. The purpose of the position is to provide evidence-informed nutrition intervention to Waypoint inpatients and outpatients for health promotion, disease prevention, and treatment of acute and chronic diseases.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Provide individual diet counseling with in/out patients to assess nutrient status, recommend appropriate diet intervention and support the achievement of patient identified goals.
  • As a member of the interprofessional team, work collaboratively with clinical program areas and Food Services staff acting as a consultant in matters related to nutrition, patient diets, special food items/requests, care planning and new/emerging resources in the field.
  • Conduct regular nutrition assessments according to risk levels and annual nutrition assessments on all long term patients; perform swallow assessments and make recommendations to minimize choking/aspiration risk.
  • Conduct education with patients, clinical program staff, food service staff; lead health promotion activities such as nutrition month, diabetes prevention through displays/demonstrations and presentations.
  • Make recommendations to the Assistant Manager Food Services regarding menus and efficiencies in processes; investigate specialty products available in the marketplace and make recommendations to the Food Systems Officer for procurement.
  • Participate as a member organizational and external committees as required.
  • Supports the development of evidence-informed practice support documents within professional scope of practice.
  • Provide supervision and mentoring of dietetic interns and new dietitian employees.
  • Maintain current dietetic knowledge and competence as required by the professional College standards.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registration as a Dietitian with the College of Dietitians of Ontario is required.

  • Membership in good standing with Dietitians Canada is required.

  • Preference will be given to those with experience working with persons with mental health conditions.

  • Results oriented work ethic to work independently and undertake tasks needed to accomplish work objectives and deliver quality, consistent and timely results

  • Demonstrated leadership, conflict resolution, interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Proven written and verbal communication skills

  • Proven ability to adapt readily to change and reflects an optimistic and positive attitude

  • Models and promotes core ethical practice, Waypoint Values (Caring, Respect, Accountability, Innovation)

  • Preference for proficiency in French/English language skills.
