Communications Coordinator, Azrieli Accelerator and Owerko Centre
About the role
The Administration Team in the Office of VP Research invites applications for a Communications Coordinator. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
The Coordinator reports to the manager, Communications and is responsible for supporting the strategic marketing and communications efforts of the Azrieli Accelerator and the Owerko Centre for Neurodevelopment and Child Mental Health. This role works closely with researchers, university leaders, staff, and external stakeholders to enhance the visibility and engagement of both initiatives.
The Coordinator, Communications plays a key role in developing and executing communication plans, creating content, managing digital platforms, supporting event logistics, and maintaining operational workflows for communications activities. This is Fast-paced environment with multiple competing deadlines. Hybrid work model with potential for remote and in-office work as needed. Interaction with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders requiring professionalism.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Communications & Marketing
- Develop and implement communication plans to enhance the profile of the Azrieli Accelerator and the Owerko Centre.
- Create high-quality written and visual content for digital and print media, including websites, newsletters, social media, press releases, reports, and marketing materials.
- Maintain website content and optimize digital platforms for engagement and accessibility.
- Coordinate social media activities, monitor engagement metrics, and implement best practices.
- Support the development of branding and messaging strategies that align with university and partner organization guidelines.
- Assist in the design and production of promotional materials using creative software and tools.
- Develop and execute email marketing campaigns using platforms such as Marketo.
- Support event communications to ensure strong attendance and engagement.
Operational Support & Project Management
- Maintain communications calendars, tracking major initiatives and ensuring alignment with institutional priorities.
- Support cross-functional collaboration with university partners including the Office of the Vice-President Research, Alberta Children's Hospital Research Institute, and Development and Alumni.
- Maintain accurate records of communications materials, media lists, and stakeholder contact lists.
- Ensure compliance with university and research ethics policies related to communications and public engagement.
- Monitor and report on digital engagement analytics to optimize communication strategies.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- A post-secondary degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 2-4 years of experience in communications or marketing, preferably in an academic or research setting.
- Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to produce high-quality content under tight deadlines.
- Experience with website management (Drupal or similar CMS), email marketing tools (Marketo), and social media platforms.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint) and Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) preferred.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders including researchers, healthcare providers, donors, and community members.
- A problem-solving mindset with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and challenges.
- Knowledge of the university research environment and neurodevelopment research is an asset.
