The Department of Infrastructure (INF) provides high quality services to the public and Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) departments, boards and agencies including the planning, design, construction, acquisition, operation and maintenance of public transportation infrastructure and the buildings, works and equipment required for the GNWT to deliver its programs and services. INF makes essential petroleum products available for sale to the public where these products are not provided by the private sector, and promotes the development and increased use of energy efficient technologies. INF also regulates electrical and mechanical safety services and licenses individuals and vehicles operating in the territory.

Job Information
As an employee of the North Slave Regional operation, you will be responsible for the maintenance and operations of 7 highly complex buildings and 16 moderately complex buildings in a total portfolio of approximately 150 buildings. In addition, you will travel between 2 and 4 days to other communities on a monthly basis to provide Operating Engineering and Settlement Maintainer services to approximately 6 buildings in each community, i.e. School, Health Centres, Tank Farms, and Air Terminal Buildings.
You will be required to work in high security environments such as Correctional Facilities, the Legislative Assembly building, and airports. Within the scope of service these positions carry direct responsibility for the safety, security and comfort of building occupants.
You will also be required to provide 24 hours standby one full week, including weekends, every nine weeks. This position is deemed continuous and must always be available for work during the GNWT shutdown period around Christmas and must coordinate vacations and accept restrictions in scheduling around Christmas and New Year's. You must be available to work outside of normal business hours in case of emergency.
Your responsibilities included.
Operating, monitoring and reporting on mechanical operations and the performance of building systems, and takes corrective action to ensure safe, efficient and effective operations.
Coordinating, servicing, and repairing regular and legislated preventative maintenance tasks on assigned equipment and systems to ensure safe and efficient operation and longevity of GNWT assets.
Maintaining, adjusting, and repairing pneumatic and electronic Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) control systems and equipment to ensure proper operation.
Carries the primary decision role in the absence of authority during evening, nights and weekends for emergency responses. All of these responses will present situations where there is a threat of injury, property damage, security breach or a decrease in client comfort.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities include.
Knowledge of pellet; steam and hydronic boiler systems, HVAC controls, Direct Digital Control Systems, Electrical Systems, Energy Management & Control systems, Plumbing, Ventilation Systems, Oil Burner Maintenance and Repair, Sprinkler and Alarm Systems.
Basic knowledge of other building trades, such as plumbing, carpentry, and electrical.
Skills to effectively use computers, controls-software, diagnostic equipment and hand/power tools that are required to carry out building operations and repairs and services on electrical, electronic and mechanical systems and equipment, along with building structure finishes.
Typically attained by. Completion of a 4th Class Power Engineering certification, or a Journeyperson Certificate in a Mechanical Trade and two years of experience in the building maintenance/plant management field. Class 5 driver's license.
Equivalency. 5th Class Power Engineering certification and three years of experience in the building maintenance/plant management field. Class 5 driver's license.
