Serving as a member of the Continuing Education team, PSW Clinical Assistants will have the opportunity to assist students in our Personal Support Worker certification program during their practical training. The program provides students with the academic background, theory and practical training necessary to become a qualified Personal Support Worker.
The Niagara Catholic District School Board invites applications for the position of Temporary PSW Clinical Assistant with our Continuing Education Department.
WHAT YOU BRING:

Must be a licensed Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse

Must be registered and in Good Standing with the College of Nurses Ontario

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT:

Become familiar with course descriptions and outcomes
-
Have an understanding of the adult learner
-
Orientate students to the clinical setting and staff members
-
Become familiar with Policy and Procedures of the placement site
-
Demonstrate respect, being a guest in the long-term care facility
-
Be able to develop a working relationship with the students and the staff of the facility
-
Work well with-in a multi-disciplinary team setting
-
Be aware of the cultural and social differences in students
-
Understand each student is unique
-
Engage in one-on-one teaching of the PSW student within the clinical setting
-
Model appropriate professional behaviours and attitudes
-
Provide students the opportunity to encounter various types of clinical experiences
-
Teach through verbal explanation and questioning, facilitating discussions
-
Provide students with timely feedback
-
Consult with PSW Instructor regarding any questions and/or concerns
-
Collaborate with the PSW Instructor on the evaluation of the students
PROGRAM DATES: October 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24, 30 and 31 AND November 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21, 27 and 28
Various start and end times which may include evenings and weekends
HOURS: 120 hours total
LOCATION: Long-Term Care Facilities (Niagara Region)
RATE OF PAY: $ 35.48 per hour inclusive of vacation and statutory pay
