DIRECTOR, ENVIORNMENTAL SERVICES
POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Sr. Director, Allied Health and Support Services, is responsible for leading the Environmental Services Consultants and Environmental Services Managers. The incumbent will oversee the successful implementation and maintenance of all Environmental Services standards, best practices, continuous improvement opportunities, policies, programs and procedures across all Long Term Care homes and Retirement Communities.
The Director, Environmental Services is a leader who will work in partnership with key stakeholders across the business and supports an interprofessional team in advancing Extendicare’s vision of becoming the best seniors’ care and services organization in Canada.

ACCOUNTABILITIES**:**
-
In collaboration with the Asset Management Team, support the implementation of standard programs and initiatives Mechanical/electrical systems, HVAC, fire systems, nurse call and elevators.
-
Area of responsibility include, Housekeeping & Laundry services, Groundskeeping Services, including seasonal maintenance, scheduling and equipment specifications standards and general building condition;
-
Coach and direct the Environmental Services consultant team to collaborate and partner with Homes to ensure that best practices, standards/practices and regulatory standards are above minimum standard;
-
Establish housekeeping and laundry standards that align with regulatory requirements and organizational goals.

Develop and deliver training programs for Environmental Services Managers and staff to promote best practices in housekeeping and laundry operations.
-
Identify opportunities for continuous quality improvement initiatives focused on enhancing the quality, efficiency, and resident satisfaction related to housekeeping and laundry services.

Monitor performance metrics and use data-driven insights to refine environmental services procedures and standards
-
In collaboration with the corporate development team, develop the environmental services standards, policies and procedures, and oversee the adherence in order to drive operational and productivity improvement;
-
Act as the subject matter expert and business lead to ensure the implementation of the Environmental Services program for acquisitions, redevelopments and new build properties;

Set direction among the Environmental consultant team to develop a continuous learning and high-performance culture through:
-
Analysis and dissemination of performance data at the Home and regional levels
-
Provide oversight on execution of improvement initiatives that can be scaled as a best practice across the Division
-
Provide guidance to the ESMs/Environmental Consultants. To ensure best value, identify savings and maximize efficiencies;
-
Collaborate with cross functional teams and support departments to ensure all programs, standards and policies are adhered to;
-
Provide organizational guidance and education on associated codes, standards, guidelines and legislation as required;
-
In collaboration with the Corporate Asset Management and Development teams, provide support to home ESM’s to document management compliance, as it relates to environmental service contracts and third-party vendors;
-
Provide expertise and build collaborative relationships with the ESMs & Consultants to drive high levels of resident satisfaction and employee engagement;
-
Foster a culture of compliance, accountability and performance through staff engagement and effective communication;
-
Other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
-
Post-secondary education in building systems, property management or equivalent experience
-
Minimum of seven to ten years (7-10) of environmental services experience, preferably in seniors living, with experience in a unionized environment preferred;
-
Ability to travel up to 80% within designated region, as needed;
-
Demonstrated knowledge of infection control, housekeeping & laundry best practices an asset;
-
Demonstrated experience in setting and overseeing housekeeping and laundry standards, including compliance monitoring, staff training, and performance auditing
-
Proficient change management skills and project management skills;
-
Demonstrated ability to influence others in order to achieve desired results;
-
Ability to work effectively in a diverse, collaborative, and cross functional culture;
-
Experience in leading and building high-functioning teams;
-
Excellent interpersonal skills in consensus-building, negotiation, and conflict resolution
-
Experience in overseeing improvement initiatives that require partnership with diverse stakeholder groups
-
Self-starter with ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment;
-
Successful Vulnerable Sector Check and Criminal Background Check required;
-
Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel extensively within area of responsibility.
