About the role
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Exhibition Designer to support the design and development of immersive exhibition and experiential environments. This role is ideal for a designer with a strong background in retail environments, interior design, and millwork, who can translate narrative and customer journey strategies into compelling spatial experiences.
The Exhibition Designer will collaborate closely with our strategy, creative, and project teams to develop design concepts, spatial layouts, and presentation materials that bring exhibitions and visitor experiences to life.
This position suits a highly collaborative independent contributor for comfortable working across concept development, design detailing, and production-ready documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Exhibition & Spatial Design

Develop spatial concepts and exhibition layouts that enhance storytelling and visitor engagement

Translate visitor journey strategies into thoughtful spatial and experiential design
-
Create 3D visualizations, layouts, and spatial studies to communicate design intent
Design Development
Produce comprehensive design documentation, including:
- Floor plans
- Elevations
- Section details
- Millwork drawings
- Iterate designs with the creative and strategy team
Visualization & Presentation

Prepare design presentations and visual storytelling materials

Develop SketchUp models and rendered views
-
Support client presentations with clear, compelling design visualization
Production & Fabrication Coordination

Develop designs that are fabrication-aware and buildable
-
Coordinate with fabricators, exhibit builders, and technical consultants

Review and refine millwork and construction details
Collaboration

Work with creative directors, strategists, and project managers
-
Participate in design reviews and project workshops
-
Contribute to design problem solving throughout project phases
Required Skills & Experience
5+ years of Design experience in:

Technical Skills

Advanced SketchUp

AutoCAD

Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)

Strong ability to produce spatial drawings and design documentation
Design Expertise
Deep understanding of:
- Visitor/customer journey design
- Exhibition storytelling
- Retail environments
- Millwork and fabrication
- Spatial experience design
Additional Experience (Preferred)

Museum or cultural exhibition design

Contract Details
Location: Remote / Hybrid (project-based)
Contract Type: Independent Contractor
Duration: Project-based engagements
Hourly Range: $75-120
