The SMT Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining surface mount technology (SMT) equipment used in the assembly of printed circuit boards (PCBs). The role involves ensuring production schedules are met with high quality and efficiency while following standard operating procedures and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities
- Setup and changeover of SMT equipment, utilizing written work instructions and assembly BOMs
- Daily operation of SMT equipment including stencil printer, solder paste inspection, pick and place, and reflow
- Load components onto feeders and reels
- Monitor and adjust machine settings for optimal performance
- Ensure PCBs are manufactured according to engineering specifications and quality standards
- Responsible for maintaining production output with minimal downtime and minimal supervision
- Accurately document productions data, quality issues, and machine performance logs
- Maintain general machine cleanliness and upkeep
- Achieve and adhere to a high level of quality of work produced
- Work independently within a fast-paced environment
Required Skills And Qualifications
- Successful completion of high school diploma or vocational equivalent required. Technical training or associate degree in electronics or manufacturing preferred
- 1+ years experience operating SMT equipment preferred, but entry-level applicants may be considered with strong technical aptitude
- MUST be available to work a straight afternoon shift
- Ability to read assembly drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and work instructions
- Basic soldering and component identification knowledge
- Good manual dexterity demonstrating fine motor skills for working with small components (hand-eye coordination)
- Good attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Strong verbal & written communications skills, proficient with English language
- Must be able to follow direction and have good interpersonal communication skills
- Able to work independently, stand for long periods of time
- IPC-A-610 certification or training an asset
- Knowledge of electronic components and electronic assembly is an asset
- Knowledge of set-ups, programming and adjustments an asset
