About the role

Summary of Duties

The Operations Manager assists in daily coordinating the provision of patient care, providing relevant clinical information and support to the perioperative staff through individual and group programs. The Operations Manager will support the mission, vision, values and objectives of the organization. The Operations Manager oversees the multidisciplinary team in OR, SDA, and PACU/BLOCK coordination with the allied perioperative services. Reporting to the Director of Operations Integrated Surgical Program, the Operations Manager uses a quality management framework to identify and problem solve issues related to elective and urgent patient flow, clinical practice, resource conflicts, the unit environment, staff assignments and interdisciplinary relationships on a day-to-day basis

The Operations Manager is also accountable for equipment and supply evaluation and procurement, inventory management strategies and OR information systems for the directorate.

The Operations Manager:

  • Works collaboratively with PCMs, MDRC, physicians, medical directors, and staff, materials management, and decision support. Oversees PICIS OR Management System functions and supervises staff in PICIS scheduling functions.

  • Accountable for the overall review planning, organization, direction and evaluation through which surgical supplies, equipment and material resources are provided to support the effective and efficient operations of surgical services.

  • Collaborates with PCMs on budget variance analysis for the OR, SDA and PACU/BLOCK.

  • Represents Integrated Surgical Program at designated committees & meetings at the Holland center

  • Acts as a resource for the OR in contract development participates in supplier selection working groups and other activities to develop effective materials management strategies.

  • Develops and provides effective management information to Director of Operations and PCMs.

  • Manages all ongoing relationships with vendors on behalf of the O.R. team.

  • Identify budgetary issues and opportunities for process improvement.

  • Assists with in-services as required to all surgeons and anesthesiologists with regards to, new products, equipment, vendors, implants, research, trials

  • Accountable for all risk management issues as they relate to products, patient safety. and O.R. equipment including investigations and patient incident reports in-collaboration with the PCMs

  • Works with PCMs and APN and provide input for staff performance reviews.

  • Provides feedback, coaching, counseling and guidance to staff in accordance with their specific roles, in coordination/consultation with the PCM and/or APN.

  • Promotes best practice, and ensure the provision of patient care complies with organizational policies, professional standards of practice and other relevant legislation.

  • Ensures the staff complies with mandatory occupational safety regulations.

  • Works with PCMs, APN to identify and deliver educational programs to address the learning needs of the staff and provides corporate education.

  • Supports APN in planning, delivering and revising perioperative staff orientation.

  • Assists in facilitating learning opportunities for health care students in conjunction with internal and external educational agencies.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Completion of Nursing or Health related Degree, Masters preferred
  • Completion of post-graduate O.R. certificate
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in OR leadership position
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in perioperative areas, surgical services preferred.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills and ability to be self-directed.
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated project management and organizational skills.
