About The Role This position has a hybrid work arrangement. On average, this means 1 day on-site per week. Please note that this is subject to change due to business priorities.
As ATB's next Senior Manager in Commercial Risk Advisory and Management (also known as "Special Loans") , you will manage a portfolio of distressed borrowers with the potential to work on impaired accounts. The Senior Manager works collaboratively with Underwriting, Credit, and other internal and external partners to manage the client relationship. The role focuses on working with clients towards turnaround where possible, or to realize on assets and maximize recoveries when necessary, all while minimizing risk to ATB.

Accountabilities
Responsibilities Include
- Analyze borrower’s status quo, forecast, and business plan to assess underlying cause of financial difficulty, the business cycle, and future viability;
- Develop and execute credit restructuring plan or exit strategy in order to manage risk and minimize losses on non-performing business loans;
- Underwrite submissions to Credit and ensure that recommendations are in accordance with sound credit granting principles and ATB’s lending policies and procedures;
- Structure and negotiate loan amendments or forbearance terms with the borrower;
- Review all security documents and agreements to ensure they are valid and enforceable;
- Provide day-to-day oversight and management of portfolio to ensure customer service expectations and credit quality is maintained and conduct portfolio health monitoring/maintenance;
- Work and communicate seamlessly with restructuring professionals, insolvency counsels, valuators, and financial advisors;
- Depending on skills and expertise, may be involved in collateral value estimations and associated loan loss provisions for impaired borrowers; and
- Establish and maintain strong relationships at every level across industries and internally across the organization.
Skills, Experience & Requirements
- A post-secondary degree in business with a minimum of 3 years commercial lending experience, including portfolio management, deal structuring, and client negotiations, with small and medium sized business loans in the diversified space;
- A related graduate level degree such as MBA, CPA, CFA or CIRP would be an asset;
- Detail oriented with strong attention to accuracy along with advanced credit structuring, underwriting, and financial analysis skills;
- Familiarity with business credit and security documents with a basic understanding of contract law as it pertains to security agreements;
- Experience in working with challenged accounts along with practical knowledge of collection procedures (e.g.,
- Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, Civil Enforcement Act, Forbearance Agreement, Foreclosures, Receiverships, etc.) would be considered an asset;
- Strong negotiating and conversational skills to handle difficult conversations;
- Capable of making sound decisions in the absence of detailed instructions; and
- A Client Obsessed focus with a desire to be a Champion of Belonging.
